These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Yeppers. Sounds like the standby power supply has a bad capacitor in it and the regulator Ic is defective. These parts should only be replaced by quilified technician as there is very high voltage inside these sets. Good Luck

If the TV goes in standby, then it is in protection mode.
Ensure also that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending
bad signal, check if you get same problem on DVD with no receiver box
connected.
Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.
The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible causes.
1Theinternal circuits are jammed because of electrostaticcharges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage readby the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started theprotection circuit.
2 The protection circuit detected a wrongvoltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in, starting the flashing light.
If you are in situation one, then the TV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours,sometimes even minutes.
If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

On LCD Payparticular attention at inverter and power board, power board can beinspected looking for bulged or leaking capacitors, then tested with amultimeter. The inverter is more difficult to test , there is need toread voltages, should be done by a tech. Also the LCD controller board can cause same problem
On Plasma, test Sustain (Ysus/Zsus) / Buffer boards , cables to plasma, digital board and power board.
On Rear Projection : check lamp, lamp ballast, power board, and convergence.
On CRT TVs, check ballast , flyback transformer, CRT, Tuner, Convergence.

It sounds like you have a switch problem at the front panel of the set. If a switch gets stuck internally the micro is trying to process the command and won't respond to any other commands. The only way to find out is to go into the set and desolder all the manual switches and see if the remote will work the set. It has a seperate detector for the remote. Thanks for using fixya.
