LG 50pc1dra with internal dvr lost picture on all inputs including menu screens but still has sound. Produces shadow figures on direct cable input.
Hi, I used to work for a local av shop when I purchased my 50pc1dra that has the internal dvr. Aprox 6 months ago the dvr would make scratching noises on power up then after warm cycle the noise would stop. I then one day powered up tv and got noise and very bad picture distortion that was eventually fixed by power cycling the tv multiple times including unplugging a time or two. I then in fear left tv on for the last few months. My wife mistakenly powered off the tv last week, and now I get no or very little picture...shadow images on direct cable input, but nothing on hdmi or analogue inputs. I do get sound but no menu screens... I have tried everything in my trouble shooting ability, I have worked in the a/v business for 25+ years. I removed back and no signs of capacitor burn...I know its likely the dvr or the video board....but some people have told me that the ribbons feeding the plasma panel could be culprit? I doubt this...I feel it has to be a video board or power supply to processor problem. In almost any of the cases its likely going to cost close to fix it??? as opposed to replacing....but I hate the thought of trashing it. It was still working fine....until....Can the dvr be bypassed? I thought the hdmi inputs did that by default... Any suggestions?

Hello, not exactly sure what part you need to fix your tv. But, I have used a company named ShopJimmy.com in the past with great success. I included a link to your model page from their site. Hope that helps!

Are you using the component input. This is 3 wire video. If all 3 wires are not connected color will be off. This is very common. Cable may also be bad. How does the tv menu look? Press menu on tv or LG remote. Is picture bad on all inputs? You need to determine if problem is the source or the tv set by trying various video sources and inputs. If the tv is at fault but the tv menu is ok I would suspect the main board. If the the menu is also bad i would suspect the t conn board.
Easy solution; this is a very common problem. Connect Cable or satellite box / DVR directly to one of the TV HDMI inputs. Connect an optical audio cable from that box to receiver so sound is surround through your speakers. You cannot connect DVR directly to receiver because the anti pirating chip will shut off the picture and produce a green or no screen at all.
You can, however, connect a BD (Blu-Ray) player via HDMI cable directly to your receiver without that problem. Connect HDMI output from receiver to a second HDMI input on the LG.

Have you tried selecting a different input( do you have the remote?), if so have you set your input to accept HD input ( you access this thru your 'Menu" button on your remote). I run my HD input from my game console (X-Box 360) and have to select HDTV input channel (there are 2 of them along with 2 cable inputs), and have not had a problem with this at all. good luck.
Try disconnecting the hdmI cable and the dvr box.
Connect the cable directly to the cable input.
Sometimes the dvr boxes will cause this problem
after you connect the hdmi cable.
I don't know if I had any lightning, but it is possible because my DVR/Cable box was operating on limited capacity right before this started. I unplugged everything to reset the DVC/Cable box, and when I turned the tv on, I got real tv sound for a few seconds and then a "no signal" message in the center of the screen. This happens every time I turn it on. It is not the DVR/Cable box because I hooked it up to another tv and it works fine. It's not a bulb because I would still get sound...like this other person, none of my inputs will pick up the cable. I really don't want to just have a random service person in here to charge me to figure it out if someone can lead me down the right path to getting it fixed. Please help, I love this tv and don't want to replace it. LH
sounds like this set is in the UK??? or somewhere out of the states. If it working good on the tuner or telex box , the equipment your plugging into the AV inputs are not compadible to the tv set or there is a setting in the TV menu to change the format to pal
