This problem is caused by the 'step' inside the battery cover which prohibits the tip of the battery from contacting the nipple inside the cover. I fitted a thin piece of aluminium strip (20thou) and the rangefinder works perfectly now. Make sure you dont bridge-out the +ve to the neutral (i.e. battery casing).
If the battery you changed is new..be sure you format it well and charge it max..if it is a rechargeable one ..and if it isn't rechargeable ..be sure it is new..and a good quality .. This devices also have an internal battery for settings and such ..and if it was a long time without power..it may have a faulty internal battery that can affect the display of the readings ..and all ... Consult the manual to see what kinda internal battery it has..and change that too ..(you have to open it for that ..and the model of the battery it will be written on it ..
I struggled to work out what was going on with mine (I had the same problem) and concluded that it was either an issue with the electronics, which was beyond my skills to fix, or something much simpler. We all tend to assume the more complicated answer, so I focused on the very thin and nasty spring inside the battery housing cap. I wondered if that spring was deforming in some way and causing a short circuit. So a couple of months ago I unscrewed the two tiny retaining screws that hold the plate on which the spring sits, took the plate out, removed the spring, and replaced it with a much thicker, gold plated spring taken from a small flashlight I no longer had a use for. I soldered the spring into location on the plate, returned the plate to the battery housing cap, and inserted a new battery. Two months later, the battery is still showing full power.
I went to another website and read the reviews of other owners of Bushnell products, this is a common problem from Bushnell products. The fix is to buy another or try to get them to replace it, they should recall everyone of them and give refunds or new rangefinders. I found all this out for free, thank you very much!!!
for this you will need to send the unit into their repair at 8500 marshall drive lenexa ks 66214 4-6 week turnaround and put your name address and telephone number inside the package. if there is a cost they will send an estimate.
I had the same problem, rangefinder would work only sometimes and only at short distances. Called customer support and was ready to send it in. Tech guy told me to turn off "First Target" ( or "last target") and turn on"LOS" (line of sight). Range finder now works perfectly at all distances. Apparently the first target feature doesnt work properly.
