Breaking or falling off is a pulley or pulley alignment issue, or a tensioner issue. Belts are just ordered by make and model specs. Don't sweat the details on length.
1) Brake - inside the frame, next to the brake pedal
2) DECK/PTO - underneath the fuel tank, at the base of the dash assembly
3) SEAT - underneath seat
4) REVERSE - on top of the transmission
check for grass and other material that is wrapped around the shaft above the disc and acting like a brake
when it is clear check for failing bearings on the disc shaft
