Having trouble in my e-mail account. Shuts down when I am looking for a message or trying to send a message or moving from one section to another, e.g. New, Sent, Draft, etc. Battery does not hold a charge like it did. Approx. 5 years old. Purchased at Saples.
5 years on a battery, if the device is recharged often, is a really good run. You will need a new battery. Places like Batteries+ may have the batteries, or can get them, and if they have the replacement battery, they can install it for you. Check Ebay for your replacement battery too. Typical installation of these types of battery is shown at Kindle Fire Battery Replacement
You will need a New battery, and electronic contact cleaner, or more and like a new Kindle ?
Sorry

If they don't give you a new one under warranty, are third party Kindle Repair services that will fix it for cheap. Also, I found an DYI Kindle repair guide,so you can do it yourself too, not that difficult.

If the 15 second reset does not work, I would suggest contacting amazon. They can connect to your device and see if there is something wrong with your actual kindle. If there is something wrong they are usually pretty good about replacing broken kindled :)
SOURCE: I have 2 problems with my new kindle: 1)
I had the same thing happen to my kindle! I also recieved my kindle as a girft. I contacted amazon customer support and told them what was happening. They said that there a problem with my kindle's hardware and sent me a new kindle free of charge! They even paid for shipping! I would suggest contacting amazon as I am sure they will do the same for you.
SOURCE: My kindle is frozen. I can't shut it off or charge it.
Press and hold the power button for at least fifteen seconds. Does the Kindle shut off then? If it does, press and hold the power button for a couple of seconds until it starts to reboot.
I see a trend here, get another charger and be gentel with the cables they are fragle.
