How do I wire a Honeywell thermostat

Can I start by saying I am not in anyway saying to do this alone it is dangerous but if u must follow each step start by being safe shut off the breakers good luck here to help
Step 1
Turn the air conditioning and heating unit off by flipping the appropriate circuit breaker. Test the unit to make sure it's off by turning your existing thermostat to the "On" position and seeing if it turns on. Wiring a Honeywell thermostat when the circuit breaker is on could cause you to blow the transformer that powers the HVAC unit Step 2

Connect the red wires to the thermostat RH, thermostat RC or thermostat R terminal. The thermostat RC terminal has a jumper wire between thermostat RH and thermostat RC. The thermostat R terminal operates both the heating and cooling units, and contains an internal jumper wire. Basically, your red wire on a Honeywell thermostat is the hot wire that run. Step 3

Run the green wire to the thermostat G terminal. The green wire controls the relay that operates the blower, and it controls the fan. Step 4

Control your air conditioning when you connect the yellow wire. It connects to the thermostat Y terminal Step 5

Hook the white wire to the thermostat W terminal to control the heating unit

Control transformer keeps shorting out

One or more of the solenoids operated switches is your most probable cause. If you have a clamp on amp meter, measure the amps pulled by each component with a solenoid. The reversing valve solenoid and the main contactor solenoid. Each one of the these components are typically rated at 6watts. If your control voltage is around 25 volts, your amp draw should be about .24 amps max. If your transformer cannot be reset without blowing, install a 3 amp inline fuse so when the overload occurs the only thing that blow is an inexpensive fuse costing about 25 cents instead of a several dollar transformer. If your fuse/transformer immediately blows, try looking for a direct ground in the control wiring. If problems has persisted for a while, you may even have to look into replacing your thermostat wire. The control wire travels over the thermostat wire throught the thermostat and excess amps through the thermostat wire can break down the insulation jacket and short to the common wire causing the control transformer to blow. Another thing to check is the condition of your thermostat wire to check if the insulation is shredding off. Old thermostat wire, especially thermostat wire exposed to sunlight deteriorates quicker. How do I connect the two thermostat wires from a Honeywell R8184G4009 to a programable thermostat. My old thermostat is not marked.

On the Protectorelay Oil Burner Control R8184G4009, you connect the two thermostat wires @ "T" and the other "T". On the ACE Smart Temp Universal programable therostat, connect one wire to "Rh" and the other wire to " "W". Be careful if you are using this thermostat for A/C. In that case, make sure there is no jumper between "Rh" to "Rc".

Inside Fan comes on but when you switch the thermostat to the on position it blows the circut board 3 and 5 amp fuses. All wiring was checked and eveything is wired correctly

Try disconnecting all control wiring at the furnace to the thermostat, then jump "R" terminal to "G" terminal, the fan should come on, then jump "R" to "W" the heater should come on, if the fuse holds after testing the problem is either with the control wiring to the outdoor control wiring or the thermostat and or thermostat wiring.

Have a goodman central air unit, non heat pump. keeps smoking transformers, on the inside unit, replaced fan capacitor and transformer as the old transformer was smoked as well. But to no avail the new...

There is a short in the control wiring that needs to be tracked down. Ohm the wiring to the low voltage controls, ie thermostat wiring and thermostat. Try disconnecting the thermostat wires to rule out the problem in the control wiring to the thermostat or thermostat itself, then install a new transformer without connecting the thermostat wiring, jump the red and green wire at the unit low voltage connections to test blower, and then add yellow for compressor, should be no more than 3 amps on control side wiring with A/C on.
If the problems still exists without the thermostat wiring connected then there is a problem in the wiring in the unit or control board itself.

3 amp control power fuse blowing

You have a shorted control wire problem with either the thermostat, wiring to the thermostat and or the wiring to the outdoor unit if used. Disconnect all the thermostat wiring at the unit and thermostat use a meter to check for a short.

Hello,

carefully follow the below steps;

Turn off the circuit breaker that controls the air conditioning system. Turn the thermostat to the "On" position to make sure that all power is cut off and the air conditioner cannot accidentally operate.
Remove the cover of the existing thermostat and remove the colored wires from the terminals. Take out any screws that secure the thermostat to the wall, and remove the thermostat.

Mount the new thermostat on the wall. Feed the wires through the unit, with enough slack to allow you to make the new connections.

Connect the red wire to the thermostat terminal labeled "RH," "RC" or "R." The red wire carries the power from the transformer.
Connect the green wire to the thermostat terminal labeled "G." This controls the relay that controls the fan. Attach the yellow wire to the "Y" terminal of the thermostat. This powers the main control. Connect the white wire to the "W" terminal. This is the heating control wire.

Close the thermostat's cover and turn the breakers back on. Turn the new thermostat to the "On" position to test it and that would be all.

I want to change to a programmable thermostat my old one is 8846 and i need to have a wire diagram in order to change wire or its a lr1620 might be the model

  • Red to the thermostat RH or thermostat RC terminal with a jumper wire between thermostat RH and thermostat RC. Or Red to the thermostat R terminal which is shared with both the heating and cooling. It has an internal jumper built in to the sub-base. The red wire is the source hot wire from the transformer. All other wires, except the common wire, controls a specific relay or contactor that energizes the fan, heating, or cooling depending on the selection. The following is the common wiring colors but your system may not be common and different colors could have been used.
  • Green to the thermostat G terminal. This is the color that controls the fan or the relay that control of the blower.
  • Yellow to the thermostat Y terminal. This is for control of the air conditioning.
  • White to the thermostat W terminal. This is for control of the heating.

If you look at control box at roof unit, they usually use a separate set of wires for furnace. See what colors they are attached to at harness to thermostat. Some just follow other harness, and come out at thermostat. (bypass control box) Once you've determined which 2 they are, join them together & see if furnace starts, as it should. If it does, thermostat is faulty. If not, pull outside cover off & check voltages at furnace. I'm guessing by furnace model that your unit is approx 30 ft , but if it's a park model, you may have 24 volt system on furnace or 12 volt. Another way of confirming is to go to back of furnace where air intake grille is inside your unit, and locate 2 blue wires going to furnace & remove whatever wires are attached to them & connect them together. Furnace should start up.
