SOURCE: f1 error code
"F1" is a primary control failure. This is an indication that the main machine control board has failed. The board is located on the right-hand side under the operator console. You can access it by removing the three screws in the back of the console and then lifting the console from the back towards the front of the washer. Make sure you UNPLUG the washer before opening the console. CAUTION: Use care when lifting the console off the cabinet. There are small interconnecting cables that connect the operator console to the control board that can be damaged if pulled too hard. The first thing you should do is perform a visual inspection to insure all the wires are connected and seated correctly. You can also try unplugging each connector one at a time and reseating them. Sometimes contacts can oxidize and not make good contact. If you attempt everything and the washer still does not run, you have a failed control board. If you wish to repair yourself, the board can be found at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number (located under the lid along the rim of the wash tub opening) and you will find the part you need under the "Control Panel Parts" listing as item #1. The prices vary greatly between washer model versions, so make sure you have a COMPLETE model number when you type it in the search index. I hope this was helpful. Post back if you have any further questions.

this code would indicate rps sensor at motor. whirlpools are very bad with electronics and control boards. New rps sensor requires new harness as well.

Unplug the machine. Unscrew the 3 screws under the front edge of the washer. The service technician manual is attached to the panel that slides down and off. Find F21 code. See suggested procedures. Note: My drain pump filter had a baby wash cloth in it along with some change that was disrupting the flow. It is exceptionally easy to remove, clean, and reinstall. Just line up installation notches when reinstalling. Whirlpool should have mentioned this filter in the User & Care Guide, but I could not find it anywhere in there.

JUST SPOKE WITH WHIRLPOOL ABOUT THE F-50 CODE. THEY SAID THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THEY ARE PAYING TO FIX IT. ALSO THE CONTROLL BOARD AND THE RPS SENSOR MUST BE REPLACED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE OWNER MUST CALL WHIRLPOOL, NOT THE TECH, TO GET THEM TO PAY FOR IT. HOPE THIS HELPS.

start with Activating the service diagnostic modes. You can start with the cycle selector knob at any position.
If there are no error codes stored, I recommend that you start from the beginning (step 1 above) and then run the Automatic test mode. If this unit detects a problem, it will display the error at the end of this test.
Post the results back to me.
I know how frustrating it can be when appliances do not function properly.
This particular washer has a test that we can run to see any errors. This can be confusing on this model.
I am including a document below that will describe how to view the old error codes. Use the section that starts with Activating the service diagnostic modes. You can start with the cycle selector knob at any position.
