Check the coil wires. One of them may be broke. It all wires are in good shape and not broke, the coil may need to be replaced

I have a poulan pp3816 pro 38cc that leaks gas out the muffler

Its either well flooded, or the carb needle is leaking, remove the spark plug, with the ignition switch off crank the engine to evacuate any fuel left in the cylinder, leave the machine for a couple of hours, re fit the plug and try to start useing no choke, if it still does not start, remove the spark plug again, rest it on top of the cylinder ( away from the spark plug hole ) crank the engine and check for a spark, if it has a good spark and the plug is soaked with fuel it could be a carb needle leaking, remove the carb, remove the metering cover held with four screws, replace the rubber tipped needle.

I need to replace all of the gas lines. Do I have

There is no reason to disassemble your saw, Please stop.

You can find a typical fuel system and a couple of suggestions here:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r3706813-2_cycle_fuel_system_repair

An IPL for a Poulan “PP3816 Gas Saw Type 2” can be found here - There are slightly different models. Please ensure this applies to your saw:
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/PWE/PP3816-Gas-Saw-Type-2/75.PP3816-Gas-Saw-Type-2.1.59.1.html

The small hose goes between the filter and carburetor and from the IPL the carburetor and primer.
The large hose between the primer and fuel tank (return).

If the above is not the correct model it can be found here:
Poulan.com
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/POULAN-WEED-EATER/75.59.html
The dash number of your serial number is the type.

Hose can be purchased at any chainsaw outlet, Inquire about how much hose they recommend. I have not found a good hose stretcher and I have been looking. Good luck with your project. Any additional questions you may have can be asked below. I hope you found this most helpful.

No spark

Replace the spark plug then try this:

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You do not have to bend up the electrode.

Your ignition is on the "Engine Assembly" detail (PP3816 Gas Saw Type 1) here:
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/PWE/PP3816-Gas-Saw-Type-1/75.PP3816-Gas-Saw-Type-1.1.59.1.html

If not your saw you can find yours here:

The dash number of your serial number is the type.

If I can be of more help please reply below. I hope this was helpful.

The trigger sticks in the open position on my pp3816. Can this be repaired or is a new hande required

Possibly gunk has accumulated inside the handle, preventing the trigger from moving correctly. Try spaying WD40 or other lubricant inside the handle around the trigger. That may loosen up the trigger. Also, try the WD40 on any part of the linkage that you can locate.
