AF stands for Algorithm Failure, which means that there is something preventing the dryer from calculating the remaining time. Try cleaning out the dryer drum and lint screen completely, then run the dryer with just a dry towel.

The airflow is restricted as indicated by the AF code. Check for clog lint filter and/or restricted vent system as lint build up in these areas cause airflow restriction and hence the AF code. Another possible reason is a faulty exhaust thermistor located on the blower housing. It is likely a thermistor fault if the lint filter including the vent system are all clear from lint built up but the AF code persists.

Disconnect power then remove the rear access panel and locate the thermistor on the blower housing. Disconnecting the thermistor and running the dryer will cause E1 to appear on the display to indicate an open circuit thermistor and E2 if the thermistor wires are connected together. Owners of Sharp air conditioner models AF-S60FX, AF-S80FX, AF-S85FX, and AF-R80FX may experience the following (highly annoying) issue. After 720 hours of fan operation, the error code E1 will appear on the seven segment LED temperature display. This error code is intended as a reminder for the user to clean the air filter. However, because the procedure outlined in the user manual does not clear this error code as indicated, and the appliance has a nonvolatile memory that cannot be reset by simply unplugging it, the user of the appliance will become mightily frustrated, standing in potentially sweltering heat watching the appliance repeatedly shut down in the midst of operation with the "E1" display flashing.

Believe it or not, that is what it does: if you unplug it to remove the "E1" code from the display, and plug it back in and re-start it, it will simply run for anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, and then merrily shut down again with the same flashing "E1" code.

Many people at this point, having put the manual under the canary or some such, will simply return the unit and never buy another Sharp air conditioner. But for the tech-savvy and search-adept, I offer the following procedure to clear the nefarious E1 indication, and obtain another 720 hours of cooling bliss:
1. Power down the air conditioner using the "power" button on the front panel.
2. Unplug the air conditioner from the wall socket.
3. Hold the front panel "power" button down and plug the air conditioner in. Continue to hold the power button down as the machine goes through a brief test sequence (fan & compressor each come on briefly, etc). There is a "beep" sound at the end of the test sequence, and the machine will be off. At this point, you can release the power button.
4. Unplug the air conditioner.
5. Plug the air conditioner back in.
6. Congratulations! You should now be able to operate the air conditioner normally for another 720 hours, but only if you followed the instructions above exactly.

AF is an error that will flash if a restricted air flow is sensed by the dryer control. If three consecutive cycles have low airflow the control will flash the AF error.

The AF error code can be cleared by pressing the Drying Temp pad for 5 seconds while in stand-by mode. AF will flash in the display for 1 second then "on" will appear in the display. If you press Drying Temp again and "of" will appear in the display indicating the AF error display has been turned off. Try this procedure and see if the "of" error goes away. If the "of" came up in the display by itself then the keypad may be stuck. However After cleaning the dryer's lint screen, ensure that the exterior exhaust hood connected to the dryer is unblocked, ensure that the vent connecting the dryer to the wall is clear and see that the vent is cleaned professionally.

af ,stands for air flow could be a kinked exhaust vent hose, or a restricted or cloged exhaust duct going outside.

You have to get the codes from the dealer. If you give me the codes off your radio I will see if I can get the unlock code

AF stands for 'Air Flow'. The machine is warning you that the exhaust vent airflow is insufficient. Check the exhaust hose in the rear of the machine and make sure it it not crushed or kinked. The vent pipe should be the rigid metal type not flexible foil or flexible plastic. If everything in rear looks OK, check the outside vent hood for any blockages. If everything checks out, the exhaust system may need cleaning. Cleaning kits are available at most home improvement centers.

The 3000Z does not have AF assist, and I assume the 3100Z does not have one either.
