I have the same problem with a new Kenmore fridge. There is a strong, unpleasant odour coming from the drip tray and I cannot see how to remove the tray. There was something on the tray which we were able to pull out and I put Javex on the tray but the odour is getting worse!!! I am very frustrated at this point - can anyone shed some light on this for me!!
SOURCE: Have the Kenmore Elite commercial refrigerator,
Try a sponge using gloves.Add hot water and continue with the sponge.
SOURCE: Bad smell in new Kenmore Elite fridge
Remove the cover grill plate at the bottom front.Just give it a good tug to pull it off.. It is held on by tension clips.. There is were you will find the drain pan..
Not sure if that is where the bad smell is coming from but certainly a good place to check..
If that is not it - put few boxes of Arm & Hammer baking soda in the fridge and freezer..
Give it about 24 to 48 hours..
If that does not work - you may consider contacting the store where you got the fridge for a replacement.. Maybe - just - maybe before it got to your home - a small rodent might have clibmed into it and died..
A new fridge should not have these oderes..

SOURCE: Need to remove the drip pan under my Kenmore side by side fridge.
Mine is a whirlpool side-by-side ED5GTN which must be the same design as your Kenmore.
There is no way the drip pan will come out without tilting the refrigerator backwards.
The tape is removed, the foam packing, the filter removed, the pan is not flexible enough because the pan broke.
I have worked on this until my hand is bleeding from struggling with this poor design. Custumer service was no help..said, "Well, I don't know."
I'll wait for help to tilt the thing because there is black mold and I want all removed from the bottom of the refrigerator. This design is not only "NOT customer friendly but unhealthy for your home."
SOURCE: water pooling at the bottom of kenmore fridge
I had a Kenmore fridge - about 20 years old when I replaced it this year. It used to do the exact same thing especially in warm/hot weather. What it is is the water from the freezer defrosting. There should be something on the back near the top, inside the fridge sticking out - a tiny little tray sticking out and it may also be part of supporting one of the shelves, I can't remember. Anyways, water from the defrost pools in there and is supposed to evaporate, but it gets clogged with gunk and the water spills out and runs down the back of the fridge down to the bottom. Get a pipe cleaner or something and poke it into this hole and clean out the pipe to the hole isn't blocked. This is all inside the fridge, not outside, on the back panel outside. That's the best I can do to describe the solution - it's an easy fix you can do yourself. Good luck!

You have to free the tray using a razor to cut the tape. Then, using a sponge, remove some of the excess water from the tray so it won't spill when you try to slide it out. Next, there is a sheetmetal tab sticking up in front of the tray. Simply bend it down flat so the tray will slide out through the front right over the tab. Clean tray with soap and disnfectant. Installation is reverse of above.
