I have a badger 5-81 garbage disposal unit. It started humming, so I checked the reset button and it was fine. I also rotated the unit with an allen wrench and it seems to rotate freely and easily. Still all I get is a humming noise. Water still drains normally. What is my issue? Motor seized?

Disposal has gone bad.
Following link has general troubleshoot, manuals, and installation for new disposal.

Most disposals have 1 year warranty.
If your disposal is less than 1 year old, then contact manufacturer for possible coverage.... probably easier to try swapping disposal at seller's store.

SOURCE: Garbage dispoal not working.

You need a new disposal.
Free-rotating blades show there is no obstruction.
Humming says you have power.
Frozen allen wrench says bearings are rusted.
Motor is now overheating each timer electricity is turned on, and motor will overheat and stop humming.
At least the drain is clean and water is not flooding under the sink, which means you can continue using sink until disposal is replaced.

I wrote tips for installing disposal from days when I worked apartment maintenance:

I would keep working the impeller back and forth with wrench while running hot water thru disposal until it turns freely. You can see if there are any small bone fragments or other debris in grinding chamber and removing with long needle nose pliers. Good luck. Thank you.

Kenmore 3/4 hp garbage disposer does not work, it only hums.

Do not turn on... humming sound will overheat motor
See if cutter disc located inside disposal can be moved and rotated using broom stick:
If disc rotates freely, then try motor again... if still hums, then replace disposal

Kitchen aid kadette 250

with the power "off", check inside the unit to make sure nothing is jammed in there. assuming the interior is clear, try the reset button which is usually located on the bottom of the unit. may need to use a mirror and a flashlight to locate it. if the unit hums (indicating power is there) but it does not rotate/turn/work, use your "disposal key" or a hex wrench to turn it manually: usually inserts on the bottom-middle of the unit; turn it both ways to free it up.

Reset button not working

Try reset button on bottom of disposal.
Following link has full troubleshoot resources:

If reset will not restore functionality, check that unit is getting power, and then check that unit is receiving 80% rated voltage. Replace disposal.
