My radio suddenly quit working right after having the windshield replaced. The display shows the station and volume level, but there is no sound. It was suggested to me to check to see if it had an amplifier and if so, to check to see if it was full of water?
Unless the face of the stereo says MONSOON there is no separate amplifier. On a Non-Monsoon Delco system all four amplifiers are built into the stereo, Left front, Right front, Left rear, and Right rear. Monsoon systems do have a separate amplifier which basically boosts the output of the four regular amps in the radio. I can't imagine all four of those amplifier output chips going out at the exact same time. I would pull the stereo and check if all plugs are seated properly. If those were all securely plugged in I would (myself) inspect the inside of the unit for the cause of failure. For example all four amp chips pull power from a common point and if one chip had a severe enough short in it, this may have caused the power feed trace on a circuit board to overload (too much current going through it) and created an open which killed power to all four of them. Any good electronics repair shop worth their salt should be able to repair it if you can locate one willing to try. It may only need a circuit board trace repair and one amp chip replaced.
