Power surge caused appliance to go out. refrigerator ice maker now not making ice. has water on but no ice help

Make sure the water is coming from the ice maker by using additional light to spot the source of the leak then you possibly have a defective water fill valve leaking water slowly and causing water to freeze where water exits the tube into the ice maker. Once there is ice there and the ice maker calls for water the water either spews all over everything or is blocked from filling the ice maker cube slots altogether. Check out the solenoids and power to the water solenoids for ice maker and door water.

The compressor gets power from compressor capacitor or compressor relay.On some models there is capacitor and on some there is relay.May be that relay or capacitor got shorted causing the problem.

But if that checks out ok,then its faulty compressor causing these.

Ice makers not making ice are often a symptom of an automatic defrosting problem but first we will check out the ice maker itself.

- Go to page 25 of the manual and determine which of the 2 "optics" designs you have. Then follow the troubleshooting steps. Note the charts on page 32 and 33 can be rotated by rt clicking and then choosing rotate clockwise. Bad thing about this is you have to click rotate 3 more times to to upright all the rest of the document when your done looking at the chart.
- If the Optics test is good proceed to the the ice maker functional test on page 29 and note the jumper wire required

You can make a simple test cord out of a CHEAP extension cord with some bayonet terminal ends and power the solenoids individually after removing the connector of the water valve solenoid. Apply power from an outlet to the solenoid and the powere solenoid should provide water to either water in door or the icemaker itself. 5 seconds is more than enough time to determine if the solenoids are functioning properly.

Between the 2 manuals you should be able to determine if you have an ice maker problem or...

Your symptoms are being caused by the freezer rising above 18 Deg F and the ice maker thermostat is just not cold enough to cause the ice maker to go into the harvest cycle. In this case... there are several other possibilites:
- Defrost control
- Defrost Element
- Bi-metal thermostat (60 Deg)
- Evaporator fan not running at full speed / at all. (A failed door switch can cause this but if the door switch is bad.. you will not have water in door functions also.)
- Dirty condensor coils
- condensor fan not running

the water pump is burned out.
the power surge most definitely caused this.
locate the water pump and with a multi meter test for power.Replace.

99% chance that the surge blew the power supply board. If it is a French door, bottom freezer model with ice and water through the left hand top door, it may have taken out the motherboard too. Samsung uses at least two boards, one main motherboard and a power supply board that powers the main.

IF THE FRIDGE IS COOLING AND FREEZING WITHOUT AND HASSLE THEN YOU DONT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR CONTROL BOARDS.ALSO IF THE WATER IS STILL COMING OUT THE WATER SIDE OF IT.YOU NEED TO LOCATE THE WATER VALVE AND CHECK IF THE VALVE TO THE ICE MAKER IS NOT BLOWN THAT MIGHT BE THE CAUSE OF THE FRIDGE NOT MAKING ICE.
