There is a switch at the point where the door closes or somewhere around the front of the dryer that the door engages when closed or disengages when the door is opened that has gone bad.

Switch for the door is sticking or bad. It is usually the same switch that turns the light on when the door is opened. I just checked mine, it was sticking a little. I pushed it in as far as possible and sprayed a tiny amount of WD-40. Pushed in and out several times. No more stick. A very light oil might work also. Otherwise you have a bad switch.

Whirlpool dryer LER8648PWO wont start.

make sure door is closed and then if that doesnt do it, open door and look for where the door contacts at closing you will see a little metal table that is like a ground sometimes when a dryer door is closed or slammed the tab might get pulled backwards with the opening of the door again adjust the tab again so contact with door when shut makes contact if that doesnt do it, check your breaker and see if the breaker was tripped too

THE LIGHT WILL NOT COME ON WHEN THE DOOR IS OPENED AND THE DRYER WILL NOT STOP WITH THE DOOR OPEN

The dryer has a switch in the door that is activated when the door is opened/closed, replace this switch or check the connector to it or the wiring.

It heats up but doesnt stop after the clothes are dry

IT is the timer. If electronic needs to replace the board. If dial type, needs the timer

Whirlpool dryer doesnt heat, time and shut off when you open the door

if you have it on time dry and it doesn't count down the timer is bad but it should stop when you open the door unless you have a broken door switch too, just open the door and push in on the switch with your finger,it should make a clicking sound,if not the door switch is also broke,if you have the timer on auto or more or less then it won't move without heat.on auto the heat comes on when the dryer reaches temp. the heat shuts off and the timer will advance a little, then the heat starts again and the timer stops,it will do this until the clothes are dry by using a sensor instead of time.

Dryer runs when door shuts. Only stops when door is open

There is a safety switch in the door that shuts dryer off when door is open. If there is more to your problem let me know. From what you have stated there is no problem.

Dryer stops in the middle of cycle

The door latch has failed, that's why your dryer stops. When the door opens it stops the drum and turns off. Fix the latch.

Dryer won't stop running

The hot wire runs through the start button as a bridge to complete the circuit until the motor centrifigal switch closes the circuit when running. Now if you manually start your dryer and the timer doesnt advance keeping the dryer on until you open the door or advance the timer manually then the timer is good but the motor to advance the cam is faulted. The second scenario is that the dryer is off when the door is open, but when you close the door the dryer starts. With the second scenario we have a closed circuit at all times. At this point you have either a stuck start button or the centrifigal switch is closed. Usually it is the start button on this model.
