Dell 3100 CN Prints a strip on black all the way down the right side of the page. Cleaned printer and it improved but it is still there. Anyone else have this problem ?
Re: Dell 3100 CN Prints a stip on black all the way
There is a known issue for these printers to "streak." If under warranty, call Dell. If not, there is a fix for the defective drum unit design but requires a little technical expertise.

Hi,
I also had this problem with faded print down the left hand side. I decided to strip the printer down. I had to completely remove the laser imaging unit which meant removing all the covers and a couple of circuit boards. I then cleaned the lenses/mirrors inside the open front and laser head (behind a flap with laser warning sticker) with compressed air. This cured the problem but took a couple of hours. I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you are reasonable competent with electro mechanical devices.
Having seen the laser imaging unit out of the printer, it seems a real shame that it wasn't manufactured to be air/toner tight as this could have been achieved at a small cost.
I hope this is helpful ;)
There are TWO platens with the ADF models.
One is the obvious glass plate (bed). The other is a strip of glass that is almost an inch wide. This stip is where documents fed through the ADF is scanned. Chances are, this strip is dirty. Take a damp clean cloth and wipe it down. I use isopropyl (rubbing) alocohol and do a quick swipe to loosen ink, gunk, adhesives, etc. off of the glass and finish with a dry cloth.
This means that loose toner powder has gotten in the way of the lazer "eye". If you open up the front door, you will see a blue tab toward the right, pull that toward you, then look on the right side of the printer, you will see that a door has opened. Pull that blue stick out as far as you can and you will see some toner powder on that, clear it off, and make sure the little pad is clean. After you have cleared the powder off, slide it back in and out a few times, this will clean the eye. Run another document through, if the line is still there, just clean another time. Should go away. I have this problem alot.
Hi, if you open the open the printer, unit to gain access to install ink cartridge, if you see the metallic end which has got a hook on both the ends left and right side. the ink cartridge runs between the strip from left to right which should be connected above the ink cartridge meta rod.
