How to disable touchpad on vostro 3550

Thanks to GLVAN he posted it before
First you need to make sure you have the Synaptics Pointing Device software on your laptop. If not, go to Dell's website and download this and install it to your computer. Once installed you will see an icon in the lower right corner of your laptop screen that looks like a touchpad. Double click that icon. This will bring up your mouse properties. There are several tabs. Single click on the tab called Device Settings. Highlight the standard pointing device and select disable. Click on apply in the lower right corner of that window. The device should now should now show as No under enabled and your touchpad won't work.

Unlock laptop mouse

Examine your "Function"/"F" keys and look for a touchpad icon.

If you find one, hold the "Fn" key and press the touchpad icon button to unlock the touchpad.

Move on to Step 2 if your laptop doesn't support this feature.

Plug a USB mouse into an open port on your laptop. Click the Windows "Start" button.

Click "Control Panel" in Windows XP and double-click "Device Manager." Type "Device" in the search box in Vista and Windows 7 and click "Device Manager" from the results.

Click "+" next to "Mice and other pointing devices." Right-click the touchpad and select "Enable."

Your touchpad is now unlocked.

hope this helps

Touchpad of vostro laptop has two scrollbars but they are not working. Rest touchpad iss working fine

Have you installed the touchpad drivers?

If not sure use this link to get the proper touchpad driver.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn

Proceed according to the website instructions till you get a list with Categories of drivers. Expand the Mouse&Keyboards section and look for drivers with "Applies to: Touchpad/Pointing Stick"-Statements. After downloading them install them by double-clicking on the downloaded file.

Hope it helps...

Synaptic touchpad doesnt work may laptop is Acer 3810T

Well usually with the synaptic touchpad is that they come with there system tray icon to tell us the status...
Basically if in the right hand corner of most OS and depending on your settings you will see the notification icons... In this section you should see the Synaptic Icon, usually a red square with a with Strike going through kinda with a curve in it...
IF you see it then, you mouse should be fine and it could become a hardware issue, if it is not there...
Go to Start > Control Panel > Device Manager... Go to "Mice and other pointing device" Should now see the synaptic. Right Click on it uninstall, DO NOT check box that says DELETE the driver.. then restart your system after successful uninstall and all should be working...
IF not go back to the device manager with above steps... then once there, Right Click on "mice and other pointing device" then Scan for hardware changes and it should use windows update get it for you....

My synaptic pointing device stop working ..I think

Since you do not specify the model number for your HP laptop one cannot be too specific. On my Toshiba laptop activation and deactivation of the touch pad is enacted by pressing the Fn-F9 sequence.

The actual Function key to press after the Fn key might have the picture of a touch pad on it. Examine tour laptop keyboard.
