SOURCE: reassembling blades on hedge trimmer

the blades are stuck , i spray my trimmer with wd40 before every use to keep them juicy you should too. also sometimes if you hit a large stick it will put a divot in the blade cause ing it to stick. as for putting it together, find some one who can do it without directions. but when you use them next make sure you soak em good with wd40 or something if you dont i guarantee they will always stick. wd40 willl not hurt any shrubbery, as ive been doing it for years.

SOURCE: Ryobi 18V Hedge Trimmer Blade Question

Just buy a file and push 3 or 4 down strokes down the same slope of the cutter toward the sharp edge. Never file on the flat top of the cutter, only on the slope. Support the frame using a saw horse or pick-up bed. The support makes the file cut the metal better. You can do the same thing with chain saws. You just need the file that fits the cutter. You just hold a consistant angle and count out the same number of strokes. Also, clean out junk between the moving parts, tighten any loose screws, and drop a few drops of 3 in 1 oil between the moving parts. Having things sharpened at a shop is inconvenient and expensive.

Hello. Get a can of starter fluid and a helper. Spray some into the air cleaner and start it up. Have your helper continue to spray a little starter fluid to keep it running for a minute or so. This will clear whatever blockage you have. Once it sounds like it is running well stop adding starter fluid and see. Joe

I have a Ryobi 30562 it wont start

Check spark arrestor on the muffler to see if it is clogged.

If not clogged remove muffler and check the piston and cylinder condition. Check for struck rings.

Note: These engine requires at least 100 psi to start so a compression test isn't out the question.

Trimmer repair manual

Check for fuel to carb. Check for ignition by removing plug and laying metal case against cylinder head, pull starter and watch for spark. Check carb. Air filter and check exhaust port on muffler for dirt dobbers and carbon buildup. While plug is removed hold finger over spark plug port and see that you have a good bit of compression. If this does not help remove and replace or rebuild carb.

Back to basics, do you have a spark at the plug? do you have fresh fuel in the tank? have you replaced the pick up filter in the fuel tank? have you removed the muffler and taken a look at the piston face through the open port to see if the engine has nipped up?

How do you clean the spark arester and where is it located

It is located inside the muffler. It is a small screen. Remove it so you can clean it with a wire brush and oven cleaner. The muffler will have to be removed and taken apart. Spray on oven cleaner and let sit for 10 minutes. Rinse throughly and then use a wire brush to clean it off. Wear rubber gloves. The muffler comes apart as shown in this photo. 88f61a5.png

I have a 22 inch 25CC gas hedge trimmer that will start fine but only run for 30-40 sec. in the "full choke" position before stopping. It will also stop if I try to give it gas. What should I do?

Basics to check:
1) Spark plug - brown or dark brown - OK
a) is it carbon or fuel fouled
b) is there spark

2) Muffler remove for inspection
a) exhaust screen clean or plugged
b) inspect cylinder wall/piston as the flywheel is slowly rotated
3) Check cylinder compression

Fuel starvation - 'lean fuel' condition
Basic things to check:
1) spark plug
2) spark arrestor in muffler
3) fuel lines and tank filter
4) turn adjustment needles out (counterclockwise) 1/4 to 1/2 turn
Chain Saws:
5) check impulse tube and intake boot for cracks or leaks
*if all of the above are OK and/or do not improve performance then:
Remove Carburetor
6) replace gaskets/diaphragms
a) use a spray carb cleaner to clean jets, holes, and body of carb
b) fuel pump diaphragm goes against the carb body,
then the gasket towards the outside
c) metering gasket goes against the carb body,
and the diaphragm goes towards the outside

Bosch Hedge Trimmer AHS 4-16 Starts now and

sounds like you will need to replace starter pulley in the starter cover assy and check that the starter pawls are free to move and the pawl springs are no broken or the pawls are frozen

but your problem is most likley starter pulley

remove the starter cover and check the starter pulley

worn or damage teeth on pulley may be quite evident
