My 2004 Kenmore leaks water at the water filter housing. I put a new filter in but when I wish to get water it overflows at thde top.

Replaced filter. Thought the o ring may be bad so I used some plumbers putty at threads to the interior filter. Model #253.56522400

Fist issue, plumbers putty should not be used on any water connection for potable (drinking) water, use Teflon tale if you need to. If the leak is at the housing most likely the housing is bad, replace it.

Can the water filter housing be the cause of slow water when the filter is in place?

Even a new filter will reduce the flow some what. I think the pressure to the filter is low or restricted . that will cause a reduction in flow, no it should not leak, check on the seal.

What causes leak between filter and filter housing on kenmore elite model 40141003010.

Hello Emile;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

I assume your changed the below component:

25693704-zbtre13rzitqz5mqvrpod1im-1-0.jpg At the ends of the plastic tubing are plastic push pull connectors. If the tubing is not properly seated and locked into the connector you will have a leak.
You may also have a crack in the connecting tubing from the water tank.
When you use your water dispenser, the water dispenser solenoid valve allows 65 PSI water pressure into the plastic tubing line, where if you have a bad connector or a crack in the line will cause a leak.
The is a plastic cap on the top of the above component.
1.) Put your fingers behind the above component where the tubing goes into the plastic mounting head. More often than not you can get bad parts
2.) Have someone push the water dispenser lever. Observe if water is running down the plastic tubing or if your fingers are getting wet.

Kenmore refrigerator water filter bypass

That is a tough one. You can remove the water hoses from the housing but it won't be easy. Unless the housing itself is broken I don't think I would recommend bypassing it. Now if you really do want to go this route, here's how I would do it.
1) Turn off the supply
2) Carefully remove both lines from housing
3) Using the proper fittings, splice enough line so that you can position the new inline filter at the rear of the unit.
4) Attach the proper quick connect fittings to the new lines.
5) Install the new inline filter .(You may wish to secure the new assembly to the back of the unit)
6) Turn supply back on and check for leaks
As far as which filter, there are many to choose from. I would just get an inexpensive, inline filter made for ice makers. just be sure you get the correct quick connect ends for your new installation.
You can also purchase a complete kit which comes with mounting hardware, a filter and everything you need. This won't be inline though. It will be a separate housing which you will just mount remotely.
Good Luck!

I have a leak inside my Kenmore Coldspot Model # 106 72104100. It is not coming from the icemaker.

If the water filter is old the seals will leak into the evaporative tray overflowing it. Replace the filter or give it a turn to bypass.

I replaced my Whirlpool Ultraease Undersink Filtration filter model WHEEDF and th Filter 1 of the pair of filters leaks. I have applied teflon tape to the threaded pin of the mounting unit and the leaks...

I would shut water off and relieve pressure. Remove filter houseing and inspect rubber gasket on bath sides, clean it off and clean inside of cap where gasket sets and on top of housing. Make sure there are no rough spot on either surface. If there are you can smooth them out by using fine grit sandpaper,no coarser then 120 grit. Wipe all surfaces clean and apply 5-6 wraps of teflon tape on threads on filter housing. Before you put gasket back in place you can put a light coating of petroleum jelly, vaseiline or similar,on both sides of gasket. wipe off excess. Reinstall filter and housing. tighten securely. Turn water back on and check for leaks. If it still leaks you can tighten a little more. If it still leaks I would replace gasket. Hope this helps. Thanks

Ice maker drip into ice bucket and manual cycle leaks more water

Need to take the ice maker out to measure the amount of water input into the ice tray. In this case the tray was already full (from the leaking valve). The spillage I saw was just the tray overflowing. Time for a new valve.
