How does the pur water filter work? Is it powered by a battery or is something else involved? My light will not light green or red after changing the filter sometime ago. Does it come apart?

the light has a battery that 's not replaceable. it wears out and then the light doesn't work any more. you just have to guess when it's time to replace the cartridge. (I got a new filter that i like the color better, after i used the old one for a while after the light ceased working). might be under warranty.

Take it loose from the faucet and flip the lever down on the filter in the on position. Take the cap off and remove the filter. Blow hard through it. You should hear a whirling noise of a gear, like a windmill. If not, I use a water dental pic to pulsate into it and clean it out. This is what makes the light work and when flow goes down, the light changes color. It's all mechanical. No battery. Just free up the gear so it turns freely to work the light. If standing in front of a mirror, you can actually see the light come on. PUR doesn't tell you this because they want you to purchase another one.

NOTE: This vehicle is equipped with a passive immobilizer that needs to be bypassed for remote start operation only. Use DEI part number 555U to bypass. *1 The DDM (drivers door module) is located in the center of the drivers door. *2 Requires a double pulse to unlock. *3 Parking lights require a negative trigger with a 1800 ohm resistor in-line to the white/green wire. Using a negative trigger with a 780 ohm resistor in-line to the same white/green wire will turn on the headlights as well as the parking lights. *4 This wire may cause the aftermarket alarm to false when the vehicles electrical system shuts down. Use a relay to isolate it. *5 The FEM (Front Electronic Module) is located in the drivers kick panel. I solved my own problem. Just realized the red & green dots are not lights
The only LIGHT is the top signal light marked " water filter." which is green
when filter is ok & turns red when filter needs changing. The red & green
dots are not lights but are indicators for the water filter light. Red dot meaning
"change filter" and the Green dot means "filter ok"

electronic circuit needs replacement

Hi there, I noticed the same condition when I left the filter in ours a little too long. The optimal performance from the filter is achieved (I have found) when you change it after 3 months. This is about the same amount of time it takes for the light to change from green to red on the filter light.
