NRS Hoveround MPV 5 - Used Power Wheelchair Logo
Andy Posted on Jan 16, 2015

We just replaced the joystick with a new one on a Hoveround MPV5. The joystick works, but it is backwards; push forward, it goes backwards, push left, it turns right. What's going on? Any suggestions? The part came from a superstore with no instructions.

SOURCE: when I push the buttonThe

it sounds to me like there is a breaker that needs to be reset for the motors . I am not sure exactly where it would be located on your scooter but it should be somewhere near the motors . or down on the base of the unit somewhere . it will be 1 or 2 small black push buttons and they will be popped out a little bit .preston in and they will click .if they did click that means the breaker was tripped . pushing them in resets them . once you have reset the breakers try the unit again . hopefully this will have solve your problem . if you have any other questions or need more clarification please ask a question the comments and I will be happy to give you further information .

My mom has a 10yr old MPV5. It stopped working and showed 7 bars rapidly flashing. The manual shows this to be a joystick issue.

Can a joystick controller from a hoveround mpv5 chair work with a heartway allure chair

They both have VSI joystick controllers. There are many variations of connections but as long as the connections match up, there should not be a problem switching them.

Hoveround chair only turns left

Do the casters swivel? If not, make them loose.
Are the tires properly inflated? If not, inflate them.
Does the silver post part of the joystick move up and down at all (if it does it's shot)
Has it been exposed to outside moisture? If so your motor brake may be ceased and needs to be disassembled and cleaned.
Hope this helped.

My hoveround MPV5 doesn't move. When I turn the power on, all of the battery lights come on and flash in unison. Why is it doing that?

Scottyguy Check your freewheel levers in front of the seat and make sure they are in the drive mode. If they are check your owners manual to see if you have a lock out function for your joystick If you have a lockout then it should tell you how to get it out. Some chairs can be taken out of lockout by pressing the horn button twice as soon as you turn it on. Others use the on/off button pressing the on/off button twice and then turning it on will get it out of lockout and then others use the joystick turn the power on immediately push the joystick full forward until you hear a beep then pull fully backward till you hear another beep then release to the center. With the Hoveround I don't know if they have a lockout or not and how to get it out but the examples I gave you are the only ones I am aware of. If all else fails you can contact Hoveround @ 1-800-964-6837 and ask for tech support explain your problem and hopefully they can help Hope this helps you

The speed control light goes back and fourth on the console.

If the lights are chasing left to right then you are in inhibit mode meaning a charger is attached or there is a problem in the joystick with the inhibit functio. Right to left chasing I think means you are in freewheel. Turn the Power off and reset the levers in front on the chair then turn the power back on and hope the lights are steady and the chair will work. If this doesn't do it maybe you are in lockout mode. If you have the manual for this chair it should explain how to get out of "lockout". If not try turning the power on and within 10 seconds push the joystick straight forward and hold until you hear a beep then immediately move the joystick to the rear and hold until you hear another beep then release joystick to the center. This should get it out of "lockout" Hope this helps!!! Of course you could always call Hoveround and ask for tech support to help with this. Checkout their website for phone number Hoveround.com

How do I lock up my Hoveround MPV5? The tech that delivered my chair shown me a way to lock up the joy stick & wheels, I don't remember how he did it and can't find my manual.

1. Turn the controller on.

2. To lock the chair, depress and hold the ON/OFF button. After one second the controller will beep. Release the ON/OFF button. Move the joystick forward until the control beeps. Move the joystick in reverse until the control beeps. Release the joystick. There will be a long beep that indicates the controller is locked.

3. To unlock, turn the control system on. The speed/response indicator will be rippling up and down. Move the joystick forward until the control beeps. Then move the joystick in reverse until the control beeps. Release the joystick. There will be a long beep that indicates the controller is unlocked.

This is from the manual, I hope it helps you.
