I have a dyson hand held that shuts off after just a few seconds of run time. we keep it charged but to no avail. Can someone suggest a solution.
This is (unfortunately) common with DC16 --- check to see if the red lights flash when it stops -- this is the "no filter" warning shut off. I have been living with this problem for about 3 years. Fix: remove the main filter (blue flexible plastic thing) -- note the small cylindrical metal magnet near the bottom --- it is not close enough to the sensor (sensor is buried in plastic body) . Try folding some paper and wedge it behind the filter to force the magnet closer to the sensor -- this can be done but required a bit of patience.
a much easier fix is to simply place a stronger magnet on the filter where the magnet is. The magnet that comes in the unit is too weak to let the unit know the filter is in place. I bought 20 tiny but strong flat disc magnets from Restoration Hardware, but any hobby shop would have them too. It solves the problem without any extra effort!
BTW - i am contacting dyson tomorrow to let them know about this. I hope they will post the fix so owners wont attempt to change the circuit board when it is not needed.

Hi Sukmoon, it's Jack at Dyson.
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC16 running intermittently. This could be due to an issue with either the battery or the main body. We'd appreciate the opportunity to take you through some quick diagnostic checks when you have your machine easily to hand, to help determine which part may be at fault.
At your earliest opportunity, please call us to speak with our experts directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).
We'll look forward to speaking with you.
Make sure the charger is operating. Then if it is, look at a failed battery.
