Sounds like they need cleaning & oiling. Check that nothing is keeping it from moving. I have ran over string or cord before & got caught and wrapped around wheel.

SOURCE: SELF PROPELL NOT WORKING GOOD

Have you checked the belt that drives the wheel? This is more than likely the problem. It may be broken.

SOURCE: Stuck pull cord on Toro 6.5 self-propelled mower

1) Common problem when a mower sits for several weeks at a time between mowing;
check for extra grass debris to be glogged between the blade and the mower shell.

2) If the mower has a 'bail' or 'zone' control handle;
this releases a brake mechanism on the flywheel to allow it to rotate, and after it is running, releasing the lever will 'kill' the engine.

NOTE* when transporting a push mower in the trunk of a car, try to keep the mower as level as possible.

*extra note when mower has been transported in the back of a car;
sometimes the mower is placed in a trunk at such a severe angle that the oil from the crankcase is forced around the rings and sits on top of the piston so that when you try to pull the rope you have a 'hydra' lock. (that is when a liquid is between the piston and the spark plug) You cannot compress a liquid, so the rope appears stuck.

If this happens, remove the spark plug (make sure the loose plug wire is fastened away from any combustable that comes out of the spark plug hole *** AND THERE WILL BE A HUGE STREAM OF OIL AND GASOLINE, SO BE PREPARED TO CLEAN UP A MESS ***
pull as normal until fluid is dispelled from internal engine
clean or replace the spark plug
a few more pulls (no choke required) and you are up and going

SOURCE: toro recycler self propelled 6.5hp, 22" (gts)

Hi steve16092...
You may have MAJOR damage to your motor because of overfilling the oil.
Sometimes you can bend or break a piston rod when the engine is overfilled.
Meanwhile you can check a few other things.
Take your plug out and ground it against the head of the engine with the spark wire attached to it.
You should get a bright blue spark, if not then check your ignition module, it may be faulty.
If you have spark, then try putting a little bit of lighter fluid/or gasoline in the cylinder and reinstall the plug and try to crank it...if it cranks, then you may need to clean/rebuild your carburetor.

Why won't my 22 in. Kohler Low Wheel Variable Speed Self-Propelled Gas Lawn Mower self propel anymore?

i would guess that the belt is'nt tight enough when engaged. when you press the drive bar on the handle it should make the belt really tight if not it will need replaced. sometimes the gears in the wheels will mess up. there are videos on you tube that describe that and also the belt.

My toro self propelled lawn mower won't roll backwards... the wheels are locked up

My Toro Pace Master self propelled 22" 6.75 mower will not move by itself. I can push the mower and cut. It does start with no problem. I have a cable on left side of the mower that extends to the top of the handle broken off at the top of the mower and is loose. Is there a way to check to see if this is why it will not self propel. It attaches to the push handle that does I push down to propel the mower. Any suggestions?
