Hello KYMBERLY;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

There is a white plastic fill tube that runs from the back of your refrigerator into your freezer. This fill tube in the freezer section is open at the top. This tube goes into the ice maker fill cup on the right hand side of your ice maker. Opening and closing the freezer door - warm air gets in, forms condensate, and freezes. So, your fill tube and/or your fill tube is blocked with ice.

Remove the extra storage shelf in front of the ice maker. Using a hair dryer defrost the ice in the fill cup and fill tube. This is located on the right hand side of you icemaker.

Maytag bottom freezer ice maker leaking water. It fills the tray in about one hour. How do I shut off the water supply or turn off the ice maker? I suspect the lever is not functioning properly.

The water line shut is usually behind the unit.Pull it out from wall. Just turn clockwise to shut the water off. Depending on your model you can turn the ice maker off by letting up the handle in the ice tray. That shuts it off from making ice.Newer models have a button on door that reads ice off.But if it's leaking water.Shut water off and left handle up or ice off at door. That way it's not trying to make ice.

Fill tube to ice maker is loose water coming in bottom of freezer

Are you sure water is coming from the ice maker fill tube? What is your model number? Water that usally fills the base of freezer is most times caused by a blocked defrost drain opening behind the rear panel inside your freezer. There are ice maker fill tubes that leak but this only requires replacing the dual water control valve that fits your model. Here is more about leaking refrigerators=> HERE I am pretty sure you are having a defrost drain blockage problem. Most defrost every eight hours and over a period of time the drain line that comes down from freezer into a cup like object top middle and back of the fresh food section. If blocked by gunk or ice you will see trails of liquid leaking down the rear wall of fresh food compartment until it reaches the crisper drawers. This is not always the same with every model as you may see frozen ice flowing down ther rear wall of freezers on side by sides. Here is an example Click here=> Whirlpool Leak Photo taken by TechnicianBrian He has been around a good bit and deserves credit for his contributions. Here is another way to make this look more si mple in clip below. TechnicianBrian.com And in this photo are several parts listed in photo group #1 were it is most likely running down the wall=> MagicChef CTB1921AR fresh food section. If you still have questions please ask and rate me if I was able to explain this well enough. Every refrigerator is made different so these are examples only. The key is to find if ice or just gunk has blocked you defrost drain. Unplug and then remove the rear panel in back of freezer. We need to see if the water is overflowing the condensate drain tray or if the blockage is in the turn the drain leads down back of your refrigerator. Much more on this page=> Leaking Refrigerators! This is a common tip so I will be placing this post and add as we go new ideas listed in Sea Breeze Tips Section. If you run into any problems along the way of repair please let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Lsc27914st ice maker will not work at all.

The ice maker itself controls the harvest cycle. The easiest thing to due is replaced the ice maker. The reason you have water from the dispensers it the water valve has to solenoids on one vale, one for the ice maker and one from water dispensing. I hope this will help you.

I have a Samsung bottom freezer top fridge RB215LASH. Water leaks from the inside back panel down under the crisper. The drain is not clogged. Their is no problem with the evaporator coils freezing...

OK, first there is only two ways water can be entering the fridge under any circumstances, one is through the Ice Maker feed line coming from your wall to the back of the fridge and into the ice maker. The other is from the ice trays themselves leaking or overflowing or the filter itself is leaking. Look at the side walls of your refrigerator, are there water streaks running down the side? Have you reset the ice maker since you did your repairs? Have you replaced the filter lately?

Usual Causes

If the water pressure is too high, the ice tray can over fill or water can splash out. You can turn the supply shutoff valve to reduce the water flow. See the diagram below. If the ice cube tray has residual pieces of ice in the bottom, remove the pieces by pressing the reset button. You may have to do this several times to clear all the ice out of the tray.

Get back to me and I know you provided a lot of information, but this is a inline water issue relating to the ice maker and not really thinking it could be anything else. So if you can give me more information about the form in which this happens, such as you find the water after the trays are filled or if this is a constant but minimal flow, large flow, we can concentrate our plan towards this are of the repairs and diagnosis. Look forward to hearing from you soon.

I recently replaced the evaporator fan motor. Now I have two problems: 1) Ice maker does not dump ice automatically. The water line is clear and fills up the tray. The ice freezes but will not dump the...

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

You made this statement:

I have to manually make the ice dump. 2) I now have a slight build up of ice under the ice maker where it appears the water from the ice tray is leaking and the inside of the freezer also has a slight build up of frost on the walls.

From my 40 years of experience that statement is telling me that the freezers' evaporator coils are blocked with ice. (i.e frost on the walls) When the coils become blocked or built up with ice everything APPEARS to be working fine but the actual freezer temp is above 17 deg F. An ice maker will not initiate an ice-harvest cycle until the temps are between 14 - 16 Deg F. I.e it is not cold enough to automatically make ice because the ice maker thermostat is not closing at 14 - 16 deg F to start the ice harvest.

So I will pose these questions for you and answer them:
Q? What causes the ice on the walls
A: The unit is not defrosting properly.

Q? What causes a refrigerator to not defrost properly?
A: There are several; reasons that a refrigerator will not automatically defrost
1. The defrost control has failed (Most common failure)
2. The defrost heating element has failed
3. The defrost thermostat has failed
4. A wiring problem in the defrost circuit

Now.... you also made this statement:
I now have a slight build up of ice under the ice maker where it appears the water from the ice tray is leaking
You may have a leaking ice tray but it is quite rare. What usually causes an ice build up directly under and ice maker is the inlet water valve leaking / bypassing water when it is supposed to be shut off. An inlet water valve will bypass water when the internal diaphragm fails or debris is blocking the needle seat of the diaphragm. Either way the only remedy is to replace the inlet water valve because the valves are NOT repairable.
Reach inside your freezer and squeeze the rubber tube that fills the ice maker with water. If there is a problem with the inlet water valve the rubber tube starts freezing up with ice. Eventually when the rubber tube is totally frozen the plastic tube on the back of the refrigerator that connects to the rubber tube either leaks or separates from the rubber tube and ports water onto the floor.

If you really want to prove that there is a problem with the inlet water valve turn the ice maker OFF. Remove the plastic tube from the rubber ice maker fill tube (Just pulls out) and place it in a bucket overnight. IF you note water in the bucket the next day then the inlet water valve has for sure failed. Sometimes they LEAK intermittently when the failure first begins so the bucket test may not reveal a leaking inlet water valve. The key here is you said you have water UNDER the ice maker and you suspect a tray leak.

Here is what I recommend you do after the overnight plastic tube in a bucket leakage / bypassing test:
1. Reinstall the plastic tube on to the rubber fill tube.
2. Turn the ice maker ON
3. UNPLUG the refrigerator and so a manual defrost by removing the freezer contents then directing a fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours. (Makes a water mess)
4. Return the unit to normal service
5. Check for ice production 6 - 8 hours after you performed the manual defrost.
If you have automatic ice production you most likely have and automatic defrosting problem... BUT.... there can be a problem with the freezer door / light switch. The door light switch is a 3 contact switch. One contact is a common power wire and the other 2 contacts turn on the light and provide power to the ice maker (and some times the evaporator fan also depending on unit design)
Test the door light switch amd make sure the light will go off when the door is closed. (depress the plunger) If the light stays on the door switch is bad.

Hopefully you have enough information to understand what is happening with your refrigerator and what the causes of the symptoms you have are.

I think in the end you will have to repair the automatic defrost problem and replace the inlet water valve. Do not forget about testing the door light switch.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Ice Maker Overfills With Water

Ice maker has adjustment on right side of power head. If ice maker is inside on upper left, you can remove white cover from it and the adjusting screw in on right. Turning counter-clockwise will decrease fill by 1/2 to 3/4 of ounce. Sounds like a small amount, but ice make only uses 4 ounces per fill. If this does not fix, try replacing fill valve. If ice maker ice bin is in the freezer door, you have to remove cover to ice maker in the top of freezer. Ice maker is screwed into top of freezer and need to be removed to take off cover to adjuster screw. same procedure for reducing water flow time as above.

Water leaking to bottom of freezer

ok you have a blocked freezer drain. The best thing to use to clear this is 'curtain wire (the plastic coated wire you use to hold up net curtains). Ok you need to find the drain hole in the "small tray on the back wall inside that fills and freezes and then the water is overflowing at this point to the bottom of freezer" you want to gentley feed the curtain wire down the hole untill the water drains down there. If you can't get the wire down you may need to turn the unit off to defrost as it could be frozen solid with ice. cheers

2003 whirlpool ice maker doesn't work

May be an issue with the cam that operates the ice maker. U can pick up a new ice maker for about 40 bucks on ebay.

Lots of things could be bogus. If the solenoid does not open, no water in tray - no ice. If tray does not get warm for fingers, fingers cannot push ice out - no ice. If freezer is not at least 10 degrees, no ice making at all. If cam motor for maker is bogus, anything could be out of whack.

Make sure that the ice maker is in "on" mode.
