I have a Maytag French Door Bottom Freezer / Refrigerator. Model MFI2568AEW. I changed the water filter today and 10 seconds after installing the new filter it started making a very loud noise like a machine gun when I ran the water. I put the old filter back on and it happened again. I finally put the bypass cap on and it stopped. Any suggestions?
Sounds like water hammer, has the water supply got it's own shut-off valve behind the fridge or in the basement ? Try shutting the valve then open it just a little. Perhaps the water supply was opened fully after installing the new filter.
Testimonial: "I shut off the water at the fridge water hose and let it sit for 10 minutes while i drained the air out of it. I installed a filter and turned on the water 50%. It worked fine for about one gallon and then the noise started again. I took the filter out, replaced the cap and turned the water up to 100%. No noise - but no filter either. I'm stumped."

there is a "control lockout" feature on the newer dispensors, ( not controlled by you(there is a control lockout feature)but I dont thinkn this is your issue.. the control lockout has somehow sensed a flood of water and for safety reasons has shut off the dispensor, the only way to reset this is to reset the control module, . You can either call for an autorized servicer to come reset, or if you feel up to it there sould be a trouble shooting/tech sheet taped to the underneath of unit, in the front right corner(behind hte kickplate)..

either inside fan out of alignment or defrost timer could be bad

don't think you need a new unit . and most of use like the service . the filter does not prevent the ice maker from working . but the water valve does and the tempt in freezer must be 15 deg or lower . ck your fan inside and underneath. both muts be going . hope this helps mm .. and ck with another service theat will be helpfull. mm
Did you bleed the air out of lines. You can do this by running about a half gallon through the dispenser

Tried shutting off the water at the inlet for the water hose; cleared the air from the line and put a filter in. I opened up the line halfway and it worked for about 1 gallon then the hammering started again. I took the filter back out and installed the relay cap and turned the water on full. No hammering. I'm stumped.
