Should have a spring or some device to pull the tensioner if its missing or something broke. May need to replace the parts. Take the model and go online and most have diagrams. Or call the dealer and see if they can send you a diagram or the local dealer and go get a diagram from them.
This is a Parts diagram website. Find your model then work through it until you find what you need

Your local parts store should have a belt routing diagram in their serpentine belt catalog. I know for a fact that NAPA and Carquest can provide you with this.
for the most part there is a diagram under the hood but give this website a try drive belt diagram www.webcrawler.com wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.
Call a different parts store and make sure you have the correct belt, be sure to check the drivers side door jam for the production date (this can sometimes be an issue). If you do, then your missing something.
If you have the Murray numbers, you should be able to go to www.murray.com and download the manual for it. They usually show the routing in the owners and/or parts section. Hope this helps
