Try updating your hard disk drive driver see:

Vista Windows Update Error 8024A000

Here's the solution. I had to replace a failed hard drive in a Vista laptop. The original drive was a 200GB and I replaced it with a 500GB. I used my original Toshiba restoration CDs. I've spent HOURS troubleshooting this problem and I never would have guessed the solution -- it's the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver. It has to be updated because of the larger drive.
Here's a link to an HP support site for the updated driver. You can also find the update on Intel's site.

SOURCE: I.E. Cannot Display the Webpage. Due to Microsoft Update?

don't do any microsoft updates, just make sure your running the latest virus programs with the latest version virus definitions and dont' go to sites you shouldn't be going to and you'll never run into a problem. Microsoft updates are supposed to protect your computer from hackers but using a good virus program and using a different browser such as firefox or opera and you'll be good.

SOURCE: I was using windows vista on Toshiba Laptop. I got

Please note before I continue on that XP can not always be placed onto a system that had Vista as some drivers and hardware will refuse to work.

You may be having an issue w/ the boot manager.

I would suggest running the windows xp recovery console this will give you a dos like screen. Once there you can do a lot w/ the system I would suggest trying to rebuild the bootmanager.

If none of this works. You should try a full not a quick format off the install screens or you can run a win98 boot disk and access the partition and format commands.

Please post your findings in as great of detail as possible.

I believe at this time the bootmanager may be confused as to if its dealing w/ visita or if its dealing w/ xp. The boot manager uses a part of the harddrive outside of normal storage to control parts of the OS loading procedures.

Thanks
Frank

Vista won`t update has 8024404 error

Try reboting your computer, if tha does not work, Go to Microsoft.com and contact customer service and tell them about your problem. Also, you can try to download Service Pack 2 or 3.
Before you do this, you may want to try to go to the Control Panel and click on the System and Security option and click on "Find and Fix Problems" and follow instructions, or click on the System and security and check the :Action Center" or "Windows Update."
Explore this page, you will probably find a solution for your problem. You can also try to "restore your computer" to an ealier time. The one you will find under the "Action Center.
I hope that this info will help you to resolve your problem.

Unable to check for updates with Windows Vista Home Premiun, SP1, 32 bits, error code 80244019 for Windiws Update and 0x80244019 for Windows Defender, last update instaled Jan/01/09

I've been having the same error when I try to run Windows update on a Vista Ultimate machine setup for use with our SBS 2003 server running ISA 2004.

The Solution that I found is this.

When you setup Vista for use with a domain it creates the following regkey with a subkey etc ( policy ) that sets Vista to look for a WSUS server.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
"WUServer"="http://serversbs"
"WUStatusServer"="http://serversbs"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]
"NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000
"AUOptions"=dword:00000004
"ScheduledInstallDay"=dword:00000000
"ScheduledInstallTime"=dword:00000003
"NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers"=dword:00000001
"RescheduleWaitTime"=dword:00000001
"UseWUServer"=dword:00000001

When I deleted this key and rebooted my PC windows update was working.

Hope this was somehow usefull

ATI Radeon X1300 wont work with my Vista 32 bit

Try this.

Download the unified Radeon drivers from ATI's website... do not use Windows update. Get the Drivers Only package. for Vista 32-bit

If you can get to the desktop:
Uninstall the existing display drivers by using the remove hardware utility. Whatever they are... remove them. Reboot. Windows will try to reinstall the drivers on the next boot. If it allows you cancel the installation at any time during install do it. Run the downloaded package from ATI. Reboot.

If you can't get to the desktop:
Press F8 when booting and enter safe mode with networking. Download the ATI drivers from ati.com for Vista 32-bit.
Uninstall the display drivers. Reboot. Should take you to the desktop on the next boot so you can run the install program.
