Proscan 39"-- Suddenly, I cannot turn off the TV manually or with the remote. Can't change the volume either by remote or manually. I changed the batteries in the remote.

If this TV came with an universal remote, try pressing the TV key. Sometimes it works.
If that did not work any other RCA, GE, Proscan universal should work.

Thank you. I did solve my problem with some diligence. The instructions from Verizon were correct. I realized that there are two buttons on the Verizon universal remote that look alike - the "play" arrow and the "fast forward" double arrow. Once I used both of these buttons in the proper sequence, reprogramming the TV remote with the new code worked.
