Many times this is caused by stray frequencies in the neighborhood. And, sometimes changing the frequencies on the remote and receiver reduce the occurrence.
But it sounds like this may not be the case, here. If not, the receiver in the fan is the culprit and should be replaced. No danger, just annoying.

If it has a chain, buy a light dimmer switch so it will not have 1 speed anymore. If it has a remote control, buy a new remote control like your old one. Try different numbers on remote control.

You will most likely need to replace the receiver with a new one from hunter. The receiver is actually a complete controller and contains the receiver, relays (which you hear clicking) and starting condensors(large capacitors which hold a charge that is "dumped" over the windings to get the motor to start from a dead stop). These appear to be pretty tightly assembled unless you have a desire to start replacing parts "off the board."

it also could be one of the the jumpers fell out of the remote
they are located just above the battery. you will need to match the placement of the jumpers with the receiver mounted in the fan.

I had this problem. After trying a new 3 speed switch with no success I ordered two capacitors from ebay. I paid close attention to the color and number of wires on each capacitor when I placed the order. There were photos when I viewed the item and it was the correct match. The cost was about $14.00 which included free shipping. When I cut the old wires to replace the capacitors I did not wire nut the new ones in place. Instead I bought a couple of packages of plastic coated male and female terminals for the correct wire size. I installed all the wires on one side ( housing wires) with one type (male) and all the capacitor wires with the other (female). I did this to insure a secure connection. I then just plugged in the like color connections. When I first turned on the fan the same symptom (slow) was present. One of the capacitors had the two of the four wires the same color (grey). I simply swapped the connections by unplugging the connectors and reconnecting them. When I turned on the switch again the fan worked perfectly on all speeds.
