When i turned on the tv, i heard a crackle sound and the picture went out. i can hear everything but cant see nothing! zenith told me that this tv has a 66,000 hour viewing lifespan and the problem might be the "bulb". Please help, what should i do and how much is it going to cost me?
As a former television technician for a well known electronics store. This problem can be one of many problems. It can be a short of the main board, the y or x boards (either sus or buffer). But the most likely issue, since you still have sound, is that the panel went bad.

If there is no picture but sound is audible then replacing the projection lamp will do otherwise, the TV requires to be diagnosed for any other hardware damages.
common problems with these, usually customers here a loud pop. then the screen goes blank. I would try...
Some of these have a 4 pin test on the control board that you can jump with solder to get test pattern. If you get it to do that then these boards maybe good and would replace the control board. if nothing happens, then
the upper & lower drive also the Ysus and Zsus boards all at the same time.
last could be a defective panel.
hope this helps. p/n are on all the boards.
I just bought a used 60 inch rear projection tv. The picture is fine except I have a crackling sound coming from the front of the tv also. What's the deal?
That crackling noise has nothing to do with the television and everything to do with your antenna. It is merely signal breakdown, when you get signal interference with analogue tv you get snow, with digital you get little squares on the screen and/or sound breaking and cutting in and out, get a licensed antenna repairer to come out check your signal strength as you may need a booster or your antenna could just be a few degrees off....
If you had a burning smell, well the board is toast. These sets are made to replace the entire board at one time. Before installing the replacement module, the picture tube should be checked. A defective picture tube ( such as a G1 short) may cause a failure in the power supply section.
