need to connect my ps3 to my comcast cable internet

  • srenn Feb 07, 2008

ok this is a good one who can fix it? I had an internet connection with an existing computer and as far as I know it was active, running a long wire is impossible given the size of my house and where the inputs are. My room is three floors down surrounded on three sides by concrete block, (wifi hasn't got a chance in hell) I do however have cable that runs down there. My isp is adelphia and i wasn't there when they hooked up the computer. so I don't know what is needed to add another unit and I don't want to have them sell me another modem. Can I buy any cable modem from some store, plug it in and use the existing internet connnection to get my ps3 online.

  • ps3freak Jul 11, 2008

I typed in all of the codes on the back of my wireless router. I am primarily prompted for an SSID code; the model number of the router was the only number that was accepted. I'm not sure if that's the number that actually works but I was able to proceed to another WEP security code that I was prompted to enter, but none of them worked. Connectivity could not be established. I have roadrunner cable through my cable company (time warner) and I have a D-link wireless router. What codes do I need? Help!!!

The ps3 wifi is very finicky --
While the ps3 scans for a hotspot turn the router off then on so the router aquires the ps3.

Okay i use to have the problem till we called playstation and they walked us throught it....

your going to need the cord to connect the ps3 and the modem.

-turn the modem off.
-take the power cord out of the back
-unplug the usb cord from the back
-connect the cord in both the ps3 and the modem
-plug power cord back in
-all the lights will show up and then the orange light will b the only one on
-turn it back on

then you have to go to your network settings on your ps3
make the connection wired and anything that you can make automatic do that.

have fun

I've had similar issues. I'm guessing if you have a computer and a PS3, then you have a router hooked up to your cable modem? So, first things first, let's figure out where your problem lies:

1. Unplug the cable between your cable modem and your router.
2. Plug the ethernet cable from your cable modem into the PS3 network port.
3. Unplug your cable modem, count to 10, and plug it back in.
4. Set your PS3 to Easy Network configuration, auto everything.
5. Check if you can now connect to the internet from your PS3.

If #5 fails, then you need to talk to RoadRunner support.

If #5 succeeds, then you're looking at an issue with your router blocking connectivity from the internet to your PS3. This is solvable a couple of ways, but they all involve advanced router configuration, which will be different for each router.

- Enable UPnP on your router (try this first)

- Set up your PS3 to use a manual IP address (probably something like 192.168.1.151)

- Turn off your router firewall

- Setup DMZ for your PS3.

More detailed instructions for these advanced scenarios can be found on the official Sony PS3 forums here:
http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=psnetwork&thread.id=19016

Good luck!

At home you can check your Router and your Modem and do things there. With no access to that, an unable to reboot the Router at a hotel you have to check other area.

Im a Computer Engineer. So my nature to figure shyt out like this.

Crazy since its an Unsecure connection. no WEP/WPA and no homepage that you need to accept anything at. Very uncommon for a business to do it that way.

There must be 3 access points that the PS3 could see, since at times it listed different signal strengths.

Some of the Help tips was to Disable Media Center on the PS3. Did that, and nothing.

Also Disable Network cards, then enable it again. nope.

Most of the helps where about Routers and checking on that. My laptop got on easy.

When i did the wizard it would hang on obtaining IP, then time out.

If i put a Valid IP in, then it would give the DNS error. even if i set the DNS, DHCP servers, or had those automatic.

Why can the laptop be so easy but the PS3 not.. :awcrap:

This was the first time i used Internet connection sharing option. Get to the Wireless properties then click on ADV top right.

Check on Sharing.

Then you have to choose 'Home networking connection" this would be Local Area Connection (your ETH/LAN port on your laptop)

Connect a Lan cord to your laptop into your PS3. Set your PS3 to WIRED connection and go thru the Wizard on Easy or custom with the automatic selections.

BOOM your online!!!

This would be good also if someone has a laptop or computer that doesnt have a wireless card and you need to get that system online also.

For Comcast internet and the ps3 - I have the Arris modem that came with comcast internet.

I know this might have been solved a while ago, but if you're going between your computer and ps3, I know how to do it. See when you disconnect the ethernet from the computer and hook it to the ps3, all the setting will stay on it, and this won't work with the ps3. What you need to do is, after you disconnect the ethernet, you have to hit the reset button on the modem. make sure all the settings are automatic on the ps3, and just click on whatever the default options are for everything else. When you hook up the ethernet, it'll connect everything automatically.

Just remember, you have to reset the modem every time you go between the ps3 and your computer.

My PS3 connection the last couple of days has been doing this saying error 80130182 check your network settings.
I use an ethernet cable from the modem to the ps3 always has only the last couple of days it's been doing this unable 2 connect online, pc connection works fine but to go online with the PS3 it refers to checking my settings. I've done the auto test and all but still can't detect i get timed out, the green light flashes behind the ps3 where the ethernet cable is plugged in but for sum reason can't read it.
I managed 2 have a game online this afternoon but i tried again 2nite and said the same error 80130182. I"ve never had this problem b4, could it be the new system update could of affected the connection or sumthing? i think it's up to system update version 2.52 i think

you can go wireless, but personally wired is better. what router do you have? switch everything off, plug a ethernet cable from one of your ports on router to ps3 then then switch it all on. on ps3 go to settings - network settings - internet connection settings - then select easy - then whether you wanna do it wireless or wired (up to you) then let it do its thing, once its found all your settings you can test the connection.

If you have roadrunner, it's being provided by your local cable company, probably Time-Warner of Brighthouse. Call your provider and tell them you no longer want the service. The service isn't cheap. If you never used it they made a lot of money for doing nothing. and they didn't need or deserve it!
They should be able quickly turn it off.You may or may not have cable tv from them also. You can cancel one and keep the other. I have Roadrunner provided by Brighthouse but I use Directv. You will have to return any company owned equipment related to internet service.

I hav a ps3 40 gb . i am tryin to hook it up thru my roadrunner internet service .how can i do this

cbailey2611

In regards to connecting your PS3 to the Internet what need to get a wireless router. Once you have the router then you will connect it to your cable modem. After it is connected then you will go into the wireless setup for the PS3 and point it to your router. This is the best way to setup your PS3. Note some of the newer ISPs are giving out wired/wireless router modems so you may need to contact your ISP's Tech support if you already have one of the router modems.

Let me know if you need more help with the PS3 setup as I have not made screen shots of the PS3 yet but can if you need some more help.

My ps3 keeps saying it can't obtain my ip address. Why is that? and how do i solve this problem

this is because when you hook up a internet cable to the ps3. its searchign for a connection.
You may be behind a firewall or router. you probably need your router password put in if you are indeed using a router. Otherwise if your not hooked up to the internet you have no need to go to "Network" in the consoles homepage.

IP address is your personal connection address on the internet. Assigned by the company you rent it from for you Home internet connection.

Hope this helps.

I hear Resistance 2 for ps3 is gonna be amazing Have Fun!

HOW TO INSTALL PS3 TO INTERNET

There are two way basically, you can either a) hook you PS3 up directly to your router or modem using a CAT-5 cable (RJ-45 or regular old internet cable, whatever you want to call it) or b) hook up to the internet using the built in wireless adapter of the PS3. (provide of course, that you have wireless in range of your PS3)
If you are in your PS3's menu, go to settings and then network settings. You should be able to figure the rest out from there because it basically walks you through it.

Hope that helps

Sorry if the answer seems vague... but the question was a little vague as well, just doin' my best.
