I have a Craftsman 26 HP Kohler, 54" cut lawn tractor. After I have mowed for 20-30 minutes, it starts to miss. If I disengage the mower deck it will start to fire properly after about 30 seconds. If I then mow it will start to miss every 5 minutes or so. Repeat disengage mower deck and it repeats itself. Any thoughts?
Hi l would be checking coil packs they maybe shorting out. On. Tin wear or. Check that the. Key way. On the fly wheel is not worn and not sloppy as no movement from shaft to fly wheel
if it is over head valve and its been used for about 24 months from new you need to reset your valves an then change plug an filters & oil and u should not have any other issue for another 24 months
AFTER READING YOUR QUESTION I AN MORE THEN SURE ADJUST THE VALES AN TUNE AND REPLACE PLAG FILTERS AN OIL AN IT WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM WELL IT WILL WITH THE VAVLE ADJUSTMENT ALONE BUT THE TUNE UP WILL HAVE TO BE DONE ABOUT THE SAME TIME THE VAVLES TO WEARING SO I JUST DO IT AT THE SAME TIME

Have you tried to adjust the valves?

maybe the safty switch under seat might be starting to go out if that switch doesn't work the blades wont come on at all for safety

does it turn over slow or fast if it turns slowly thats the problem so it could be battery or starter they have to have a good amount of rpms to burn fuel right when starting if not it floods out the engine with gas hope this helps thanks wade

carb dirty, jets partially plugged, float sticking. Not so uncommon problem and is caused by the fuel left in the carb over the winter gumming up (going bad). You can attempt to clean this on your own if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. Search small engine repair and it will give you a generic breakdown of the parts in a small engine carb. If not the, to have someone overhaul a small engine carb will run you about $120 including parts (at least around VA).

the cam plate that the tensioner pulley is mounted on that rotates back around to tighten the belt as the cable or rod is engaged is likely rusted and worn, there is a bushing in this pivot that can be removed and cleaned fairly easily with a abrasive wheel or pad and lubricated upon reassembly.
