Straight across the back between the blade pulleys, then to the inside of both idler pulleys, then to the engine pulley. Hope this helps. Dwain

Go to... http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action Enter the model number that is under the seat. If it's a lawn tractor, it will start with 917. That will get you to all the diagrams of the mower.
SOURCE: the belt does not stay on
Although the belt may still look good, it is most likely stretched. The cure is to replace the belt.
