Toro 6.5 Tecumseh Recycler won't stay running

I have the same POS mower. It's getting plenty of fuel, no trash in the line, cleaned the carb spotless, cleaned the tiny holes in the main jet bolt, changed oil, new spark plug, changed gas, cleaned air filter, and played with adjustment on main jet bolt (which you cant turn much or it starts leaking). If it sits for a few days, it will start and then run for about 3-5 minutes. I guess I can just mow a little bit every day. What a pile of junk this mower is.

I have the same mower and problem. Found out the issue was the carburetor. Pull the Carb and do a quick cleaning. Order the replacement kit prior to working on. My bowl o-ring was shot and I couldn't get a seal after cleaning it out.

Yes, I had a very similar problem and was unable to come to a solution. I cleaned the carburetor out and was able to get 2 more mows out before it died completely again. I then wasted several hours cleaning all the fuel lines and carburetor again - I must have made things worse because now the engine won't even turn over! I noticed that Toro has switch to a Briggs and stratton engine. I'm really disappointed that a $340 mower only lasted me 3 mowing seasons. Recently I bought an even more expensive Honda - hopefully I'll get the 10 years or so I've heard rumored a lawn mower could last.

Tecumseh motor has a round fuel bowl. Mine has a 1/2 bolt that holds it to ththe carb. 1) Secure the gas line so no more fuel goes into the carb. Take ththe bolt out, It acts as a fuel meter as well. there is a small hole thru that bolt. Clean out the bolt w/ carb cleaner. You will notice it's hollow and should be able to blow air thru this when clean. Folks this has solved my studdering, starting but not staying running issues with this mower. Knowing this fix you can buy these mowers cheap at garage sales and make them run in 15 mins. enjoy

Bought a like new self propelled Toro that would not stay running for $40...removed the jet bolt, blew it out with compressed air. Now starts on first pull and runs like a champ! Great advice!

Engine starts after primer bulb is pressed 5 or 6 times, but dies after running a few seconds.

Main jet in carb is clogged. Also check the fuel lines to carb and make sure that they are intact and have no leaks.

Why does my Toro GTS 6 hp lawnmower start then die?

Have you cleaned out the fuel jet ? if you have a fuel bowl on the bottom of your carb take it off and clean it out anbd look at the bolt that lolds the bowl on I could have little holes in it. This is the fuel jet and will not run if it is plugged.

Carburetor Cleaning TUNE UP of Toro 6 5HP Lawnmower with Tecumseh Engine

The above link will provide a video on how to clean the carb on the 6.5 hp mower. Before you go to that length, try putting some carb cleaner in the fuel tank and see if that corrects the problem. Also, as the video shows, make sure the spark plug is getting a good spark. If the spark is weak , the fly wheel may be rusted, ot the magneto is bad.

Toro 6.5 tecumseh won't start

replace your spark plug. it takes a Champion J19LM. If you left fuel in your tank over the winter then drain your tank and your float bowl. Add clean fresh fuel and it should go if not you need to clean your carb

Toro recycler mower won't stay running

take apart the carb float and clean it out, then take apart the rest of the carb and spray cleaner through it. sounds like you might have some old gas turned to jelly in your carb thats plugging it too much for the typical pressures inside the carb to **** through

I have a Toro super recycler model 20017 with a tecumseh motor, model LEV120, spec 361541B has spark and is getting fuel but will not start any suggestions? Have already replaced coil cause previously had...

Make sure that the doggone brass bolt that holds the carb bowl on was cleaned as well. It is the main jet and has tiny holes that get clogged from evaporated fuel/varnish and debris (if no inline fuel filter is used). It has holes on the bottom and the smooth part of the sides...it needs to be clean and shiny! If all is well and the motor is an OHV, then maybe the valves need adjusting.

I have a Toro model 20007 recycler with a 6.5HP Tecumseh engine. The gas had some water so i took the carburetor and gas tank off and cleaned it and the jets. The engine will crank after priming it but...

This almost sounds like a pinhole in the primer bulb but I need to know if you did the following. Did you remove the jet and venturi tube in the bottom of the carb. and clean the BRASS orifice hole and BRASS tube holes? If you did not then It will act just like the symptoms you described. Also check to see if your float bowl nut has holes in the side of it. IF it does then make sure the hole(s) are clean. Also make sure the fuel selector is all the way ON. Adittionally if the carb to block mating gasket is torn or not secure it will also perform as you stated.

Lastly the open the fuel air mixture screw on the side of the carb about 1/8th turn and see if the performance changes.

If the problem persists ....
This is dangerous due to the risk of fire but....

If you have any carb cleaner you can give it a quick shot in the nmating areas just after you start it before it gets hot to see if it speeds up. If it does, you have a vacuum leak. It is better to use an unlit propane torch if you have one.

Thanks for using FixYa,

Kelly

P.s. If the problem does persist I will need your complete engine number to proceed in troubleshooting.

Mower will not stay running

You have a problem in the fuel system. First start by checking fuel lines, filter, vacum fuel pump.If this checks out, remove carb. and clean. Check for water and trash in bowl of carb. or tank. This sould solve your problem.
