Joe, its not the latch , its the sensor/switch that recognizes if the trunk is open or closed. It might be on the latch..??,, look around the trunk area where it meets the gasket.. you will see the switch or sensor somewhere..not sure where this particular unit is located..
There is a sensor that tells the car whether the trunk is closed or open. That sensor is either bad or the piece has snapped off allowing the pressure off of it. Replace that sensor and you will solve the problem. Should be located somewhere along the perimeter of the trunks seal when you open the trunk.
this might sound odd but it sound like the sensor that sees the trunk as closed is either mis adjusted or faulty.
spray a squirt of penetrating oil like wd40 into the receiver that secures the trunk lid. For example the lid should have a loop or square of metal that when the trunk lid is closed joins with the locking mechanism.
Shoot a a squirt of we 40 into the locking mechanism and see if the light goes out.
there is a button type sensor (pressed when trunk closes) it should be easy to find (look around the outside edge of the trunk but still under the actual trunk) it can usually just be adjusted but may need replaced.
There is a switch in the trunk, that will close when the trunk is closed. This switch probably has become loose and out of adjustment, failing to work when trunk is closed. Find and readjust the trunk open\closed sensor.
It sounds like there is a faulty sensor, as your trunk is not opening without the key I would suggest its your trunk/boot sensor. As a safety feature the cars roof will not move if the trunk/boot is open.
there could be a sensor on the trunk that alerts you that the trunk is open that has come loose & needs to be adjusted or it could be faulty & needs to be replaced......hope this helps......cheers.
possibly leaking boot lock of faulty sensor in the boot lock check boot lock and if it's vacuum leaking or faulty sensor in the lock replace it. is this information helped you?
the trunk latch as a sensor that signals the control modulle the trunk is closed, check the wiring to the sensor, if it is ok replace the truck ajar sensor
