1) Completely power down your netbook & monitor.
2) Turn ON your LCD monitor, ensure that the power light is on (most monitors have an amber light indicating it's in standby mode.
3) Turn ON your netbook.
4) Watch the power light on your monitor... does it change from amber to Green?
5) If you answered YES then you're at least getting a signal from your netbook display adapter.
6) If NO, then you can try toggling the display adapter manually by pressing and holding the Fn key then single press the key that doubles as the external LCD key (usually a key that has a picture of a monitor or the words LCD on it).
7) Does the built in netbook screen work? If Yes, then proceed as normal.
8) if you don't have video from either source then you can still retrieve your data by following the manfacture steps in removing the internal hard drive. This drove can be used in an external enclosure that connects t your alternate computer via USB cable for easy data retrieval. Probably a 10 - 20 dollar investment is all it would cost.
Your problem is far more than the battery. Your problem is the power cord. Laptops for the most part will work off the power cord even if the battery is dead or even if the battery is not in the laptop. Your power cord charges your battery and if it is bad it will not charge it. You've been working off your battery even though you might have had the power cord plugged in, but if it's bad and not charging the battery, the battery drains and then you can't get the laptop to power on at all. Go purchase a ac adapter and power cord that is designed for your system. Don't buy one that some of the big box stores sell that has a an interchangeable plug at the end designed to fit just about any laptop. Those will eventually burn *********** board out.
