There can be many reasons why your refrigerator is freezing your food. To see what could be happening and to figure out how to possibly fix your problem. Take a look at this tip which contains many of the causes and solutions to fix the problems.
A few things could be wrong,The first thing to check is the damper in the fridge section and make sure it is opening and closing properly. It is located to left isde of the fridge compartment turn the unit off completly and you should here it close you may need to remove the cover and check for ice build up that would restrict the movement.
Then you need to look inside the freezer compartment on the lower portion and look for any ice build up.if you see ice build up you can use a blow dryer to defrost the back wall so you can remove the lower portion and defrost the evaporator coils.
You will need to check the defrost heating element and make sure it is in good shape if you have a ohm meter make sure it has continuity if it does not then it needs to be replaced.
Then you will also need to make sure the evaporator fan is working properly.
the last thing that would be a problem is the defrost circuit not cycling properly or a bad thermostat control.
check the door hinges a in place: The door latch and lower hinge pin should hold your refrigerator door in place.. Uncover the door by removing the screws.Take the door off and pack bottom hinge with washers and make sure hinge brackets on cabinet are tight. Check the seal is clean and pliable: If seal is gapping, one solution is to warm with a hairdryer and pull outwards gently. Check the refrigerator is properly leveled: Adjust the middle hinge to straighten the lower portion of the door. Use a level to ensure the door is flush.
After fitting the door back again, check to see if the seal is touching on all sides when the door is closed. If not, you will need a new seal.Refrigerator is properly leveled.and hinges should be properly placed.
slightly loosen the bolts on the hinges enough to scoot the door into the correct position and it will stay until you tighten the bolts on the hinges. It may take a couple of tries but that is the way to do it until the door seals and closes properly =)
yes the freezer door not closing properly will effect the refrigerator. also check in the freezer back wall and bottom for any frost buildup. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
possible causes:
bad defrost timer
bad defrost heater (in freezer)
bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice
melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if
is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above
items.
Sounds like the refrigerator is sitting lopsided. Make sure that the front legs are both retracted in the up position. If it doesn't work, then lower the front leg on the hinge side of the refrigerator. That will cause the frame to lift the door and it should be able to close properly.
