Engine knock really bad, have bended rod

Have a '96 with 254,000 miles with a similar problem after it sat about 6 weeks waiting for a transmission. Ended up being the fuel pump. You've gotta drain, then drop the tank, clean all the rusty crud out of it, replace the fuel pump AND screen AND filter. Cost me about $160 for parts in FL

There is no cure for that other than taking out the engine and tearing it down and replacing the rod bearings. There is probably too much clearance between the bearings and the crank journals do to worn bearings.

These sending units are known to fail, a replacement is about $25. I had a Bonneville that did the same thing. The only real way to test it is to remove the electronic sending unit and test it with a manual gauge. In my case I had 40 psi of oil pressure with the manual gauge but the dash would read 5-10psi.

You need to get the trouble code(s) out of the computer. You will need to have it scan.Your local auto parts store can do this for you.Let me know what they are.
