ASUS P5VDC-X motherboard wont recognise ram upgrade

Im currently using ddr ram, a 512mb stick and a 256mb stick and ive just got 2x 1gb geil 1.8v ddr2-800 pc2-6400 sticks but when i put them in and start my pc nothing happens, it fails to boot. Im not using the old sticks at the same time as the ddr2 ones and ive put them in the yellow slots, any idea why its failing to recognise the new memory? Thanks for your time

The highest ram in the DDR2 this board will take is 667 that would be backward compatible to 553, this board is made to run 2gig max of 553 ddr2 ram no problem can also be double sided sticks

SOURCE: Asus p5 vdc-x motherboard not recognizing ddr2

Ok i am just guessing here

maybe your motherboard does not support

ddr2 rams and hence it wont boot up as it does not detect any ram in the slots......

try to boot with one old and one new ram (ddr and ddr2) and post the result

are you sure whether the ddr2 ram is supported?

Do I need to buy 2 DDR2 Ram for my ASUS P5VDC-MX Motherboard?

with rams, if the memory it has is higher than that of your cpu, the pc will not boot up or if it is too low compared to your cpu again.

thus, you say it has got two slots right, remove both of the 512's and insert the 1gig only, run your computer, i am sure it will boot up nicely. switch it off. put one 512, if it does not boot then you should know that your ram has an excess of memory that your cpu could not apprehend to.

post a coment if this does not work.

thanks,

wonder

1gb shows 512mb only

Your mobo is quite old and its chipset can only support a maximum of 512MB PER SIDE (technically called a bank) of a memory module. I would guess that your 1gb memory module has 8 chips that are all located on one side of the module, putting all of the 1 GB on one bank. Thus, only 512MB of your 1 gb RAM is detected and usable by your motherboard (the remaining 32 mb is most likely being used by your onboard video). You'll need to find a double sided 1 gb memory module (usually 8 chips on each side).

Need to know what type of RAM my MD 1921 has so I can upgrade.

Hi KF27,

Your system has and supports PC SODIMM DDR RAM with a MAX support of 1GB. You currently have 512MB of RAM (2x 256MB), so your only option is 2x 512MB of RAM..

I hope this helps you out!
