u could always repair the rod, its cheaper and easier, first of clean the rust off with viniger, white works best, then go buy some enamel paint, a small jar of whatever colour it is make sure its water prof, i suggest u do this in the morning then it will be dry for u to use at night, and there u go, if ur lazy however spend the money and change the bar, gd luck!

Her's my answer- I'm having the same issue with my coffeemaker. I've looked all over the internet and I think this is my best findings: remove the rust by pouring a little Coke on the rust to dissolve the rust. Then clean the plate and paint it with heat and rust resistant paint.. Hope this helps you. I'm going to try it myself today.

stainless steel ??? rust??? technically s/s should never rust. however particles on the finish will rust and stain the metal. heres a solution that i use and works real well. look closely at the handle you should be able to detect a grain in the metal ( just like wood s/s has a grain pattern) with a scotchbrite pad sprayed with wd-40, wipe handle WITH the grain, slowly at first applying even long strokes,, it will come clean, as well as leave a protective finish so as not to happen again
