While trimmed is in use, how do I release more trimmer line?

Bumping the string head lightly on the ground will release more trimmer line if the line was loaded properly and spooled in the correct direction. If the line was loaded wrong, doing this procedure won't help. Make sure your line was loaded correctly. Do this bump as the engine is slowing down or running slow. Most all gas trimmers work this way, but some of the electric ones have automatic line feed and no bumping is necessary.

Homelite trimmer, gas, string - y is the string wrapping itself around the head of the trimmer?

The line on my new 26cc Homelite would also feed out by itself. That started me thinking the line was wound backwards. I wrapped the line in the opposite direction as was shown on the bump feed reel and now the dang thing works although the bump feed needs to be "bumped" pretty hard to work. Is it possible that the reel was manufactured with the (string direction) arrows pointing the wrong direction? The new 26cc unit is also underpowered compared to my older 25cc trimmer.

Bump n go feeder not working in petrol line trimmer every time the line gets shorter, bumping the base no longer releases more line and i have to undo the screw and physically feed more through.

It sounds like the string is not spooled correctly. Try re-spooling the string, ensuring the string will be able to freely move when the feeder is bumped.

Either that or you may be almost out of string and need to get more and re-spool.

You are pulling the trigger to make it spin while bumping, right? The bump-n-go action is based on centrifugal force.

Cant get the spool off homelite trimmer

Unscrew the bump-knob and the rest pulls off. If it won't unscrew you could always cut it off and buy a new one from ALM Manufacturing 01423 797208

Homelite curved shaft timmer line problem

So, is this trimmer suppose to feed the string automatically? If not, then it sounds like the string is wound up on the spool the wrong direction.
