The water and ice taste funny
SOURCE: Ice tastes funny all of a sudden.
you need to throw out the ice. ice gets stale after a couple of weeks , so toss the old ice. also is there something like garlic or another food that has a strong oder uncovered in your refrigerator section? air flow covers all of the unit, both refrigerator and freezer sections. if your refrigerator is not smelly , put an open box of arm hammer baking soda on a shelf in both sections of the refrigerater. if water and ice still taste funny shut off water supply and check the filter at the rear in the lower part of the unit. take off connecter and visibly check the strainer in the water valve, clean it out by removing it and rinsing it under the sink faucet. make sure that water from other faucets taste ok . the only thing left is to flush out the water tank by filling up glasses of water until the water gets room temperature . that's about all you can do short of replacing the water line leading to the refrigerator, although i have never had to do that before. good luck

Do you have a water softener? It's possible the softener was in soak when you used the water dispenser. That would explain the "salty" (hi sodium) water taste and thena retrun to normal later.
Also, if you get your water from a muncipal well, they may have been experiencing a problem at the time with higher than normal sodium content.

When the last time you changed the water filter ? If the ice cubes were in the freezer too long, the food odors from the frozen food could contaminate the water and the ice causing them bad taste (freezer burn).
Replace the water filter, if it wasn't replaced as scheduled. Dispose the old ice and make the new one to see the fresh ice still tastes bad with the new water filter. I think this should solve the problems.

I honestly don't know anything about these freezers but if your ice is that bad then i would suggest one of two things is going on
1- the supply line is causing a problem, to close to something that is heating it up or else
2- The filter in the fridge might need changing since it's possible something got into it.
That's about the only suggestions i have for this problem. Hope this helps

Change the supply line to the plastic tube line or copper. Do not use a braided plastic or metal braided line these will make the water taste bad. Changed mine to the plastic line and cured mine, no filters needed.
