I've forgotten my gmail password. When I enter in my hotmail address to reset my password, gmail won't accept my hotmail account.

Important information can sometimes be sent to an old email address that you no longer use.

For instance, if you registered a domain name, a website hosting account, a PayPal, or eBay account with an old email address but forgot to update your account when you switched email providers, then messages sent by those sites will be overlooked.

Finding old email accounts is not that difficult, especially because email users tend to use the same user name, or variations of it, for all email accounts.

If you know, or have an idea of what the old user name was, then retrieving, or changing the password is simple, but each email server uses a different user name or password retrieval method.

Call your internet provider and tell them you have forgotten your email account.

Give them your name and account number, found on your monthly statement.
In some cases the Internet provider will want to email this information to you.

Be sure they send the information to the alternate email address which you can access.
You don't want them to send messages to the email address you can't currently access.

The internet provider will ask you the security question you selected when signing up for the account.

If you can't remember what you selected, then the customer service representative may ask for a user name, your address, or the telephone number under which you registered the account.

Reset the password with the customer service representative over the phone.
The representative will help you change the user name if needed and reset the password so you can access the account again.
Yahoo Email

Go to the Yahoo mail page which asks you for your Yahoo ID.

Click on "I can't access my account."

Make the appropriate selection from the choices.
If you choose "I can't remember my user ID" then Yahoo will have you answer the "secret questions" they asked when you signed up.

These questions will be something like: "What was your first car?" or "Who was your third grade teacher?" If you answer coincides with the answer you gave when you signed up for the account.

Yahoo will give you your user ID.

After recovering your user ID, click on "I can't access my account" again and select "I can't remember my password," then click next and you will be taken to a change password screen, where you can change your password.

Start using your old Yahoo email account.
MSN Hotmail Email

Go to the Hotmail, or the MSN ID page, where it asks for your user name and password
Enter your user ID.

Unfortunately, MSN requires you to remember the user ID.

Click on "I have forgotten password"

Choose whether you want your password mailed to you or changed.
Unless you have registered a secondary email, if you choose email then the password will be sent to the account you can't access.

If you want to change password then you will be asked the security questions you specified when you registered the account.

Questions are something similar to, "Mothers birth place?" You may also be asked for your zip code, or address.

Enter a new password.

Enter anew password when the MSN ID page loads again and access your old email account.
Gmail Email

Access the Gmail ID page and click on "I can't access my account."

Choose the appropriate selection from the page that loads.
Options include, "I have forgotten my password" and "I have forgotten my user name."

If you select "I forgot user name," then click on "retrieve user name page," which you will see further down on the page.

Enter the alternate e-mail with which you registered the account.
The user name will be sent to that email.

Select "I have forgotten my password" If you know your user name then choose and click on "retrieve password" page.

Enter your user name on the page that comes up and then answer the confidential question that is asked.

It is not uncommon for users to forget their user names and passwords, especially when trying to access an email account not often used.
Email providers like Yahoo! and Google are aware that users forget and have implemented a way to identify the user in this situation. In order to use this retrieval method, you must have submitted an alternate email address when you signed up for that email.

Go to the email sign-in page.
Notice the option underneath the login fields for users that have trouble signing in; in Yahoo! Mail this option is "I forgot my Yahoo! ID" and in Google Gmail this option is "Can't Access Your Account."
Click this option.
Enter the alternate email address entered when you set up up your email address.
Yahoo! Mail users also need to enter the birth date, country and postal code entered when the email address was set up. Click "Next."

Log in to your alternative email address and click the email provided.
Your email user name is available in the body of the email.

To reset your email password, the provider might require that you answer your security question.
Go back to the email sign-in page and log in using your user name and new password.

Hotmail have a forgotten password link but you must have another email adress to send your forgotten password to
just open up another email acc at hotmail/live.com eg: [email protected]
in the right hand corner on the hotmail homepage you should see help center
down in the bottom right hand corner tab click on that another page will open you should see another help center click on that again another page will open with account calender contacts essentials
click on the account tab another page will open with if you have forgotten your password or are having trouble signing in yet another page will open get help with your password problem
or signing in click on it you should see something like I forgot my password or I know my password but am having trouble signing in I think someone else is using my hotmail account

FORGOTTEN GAMAIL ACCOUNT PASSWORD

When you set up an e-mail account with free public e-mail services such as Google Mail, Hotmail/Live or Yahoo! Mail, you are invited during the setup procedure to enter an Alternat(iv)e E-Mail Address. The purpose of this is to provide an address to which the Support Team of the E-mail Service Provider can send a link or code (or both) to enable users who have forgotten their passwords to reset their passwords.

Go to the Log In/Sign In page of the e-mail account you are having problems with and click on "Forgotten Password". Enter your alternative e-mail address and then submit a Password reset request. You may also be asked some security questions in order to verify you as the account holder. Once you have accessed and opened the Gmail e-mail sent to the alternative e-mail address, click on the link inside and you will be allowed to reset your password.

To avoid mistyped password errors, this time, before you enter the new password, type it into a text or e-mail and then copy and paste that into the password box before submitting it. Send the text or e-mail containing the password to yourself or to your other, functioning e-mail address and save this e-mail in a discreet folder on your cellphone.

Unfortunately if, for any reason, you are unable to access the alternative e-mail address or accurately answer all the security questions, then you will never be allowed access that account again, unless you can remember and enter the correct Username, Password and Security Question.

In that event, however, there is nothing to stop you opening another Gmail account. Only the Username/E-Mail Address will have to be different.

Your Google account details are the same as GMail address and password.
You need to have your GMail address, but not necessarily the password.
