The lamp will suddenly shut off while watching TV. The fan will work, but no light. We will unplug the unit, and turn it back on. The unit will work fine for awhile, then the lamp will turn off again.
SOURCE: Optoma projector overheat issue - fan comes on but switches off
Most projectors have air filters. Yours may need to be removed and cleaned. No air flow = overheat.
SOURCE: Optoma H56 - turns off just after start up.
It's not a short, the blub is near the end of it's life ~ the optoma is designed to detect when the blub is about to blow and shuts itself down. Turning the projector upside down or right side up usually only gives you a brief reprieve (some have reported a modest amount of extra time gained) on the blub ~ but in the end it's on it's way out and the projector will shut down again.

There is a stuffed 10v 3300uf capacitor on the power board. You need to replace it.
Bellow you can check in the picture where the capacitor is located.
Notice that in this picture I have already took the bad capacitor out and replaced with two small cords to reach the bottom and test the new capacitor.
To reach this place is not fast, several layers of plastic and metal must be removed, but is not a hard task to take the capacitor out and replace it for another.
It works just great! Now it is back on track with awesome image.

Asher fadida and alll,
The issue:
solid red error light?
HD70 "die's" after few min with strage noise?
flickers different colors before complete self shutdown?
well try this....
Before replacing your bulb, fan or any other component try first cleaning your optoma realy good!! HD70 doesnt comes with any kind of filter so you can imagine the amound of dust can be.
The most importent thing is to blow away any dust from your color wheel + the sensor attached to it .
for farther troubleshoting clean your fan's.
there are 2 fan's insinde the HD70.
probably the most problems will be solved by cleening the color wheel!!
if the problem is not solved ,chack the lemp and the fans if they work properlly.
For fan replacing:
Fan Part number: GM1207PKVX-A
Good luck!!

I have the same problem. The 10V 3200uf capacitor is bulged. Can't find one on the web. Where did you get yours?
