What is the mix ratio for a Johnson outboard motor?
Any Johnson outboard motor built since 1964 requires a 50/1 fuel ratio. Motors built prior to that date require a 32/1 ratio, with the exception of a few fishing motors built prior to 1955 that use a 16/1 ratio.
Two cycle engines run on a mixture of gasoline and oil. Each engine type is designed to run on a specific gas-to-oil mix ratio.
IMPORTANT: Use only oil that is labeled for use in "Two-cycle" or "Two-stroke" engines. Home Depot and other stores now have "premixed fuel" of gas and 2 cycle oil.
To mix two-cycle fuel, start by putting correct amount of oil in gas can. Then slowly add correct amount of gasoline. Do not try to mix gas and oil directly in gas tank of equipment.
IMPORTANT: Do not use any fuel that is over 30 days old. Do not mix more fuel than you are likely to use in a month. Old fuel can gum carburetors and prevent starting. Always use fresh fuel.
The chart below shows correct amount of oil per gallon that each mixing ratio requires. Expect that yours will be between 32 gas to1 oil and 50 to 1. 32:1 and 50:1 are most popular. RatioGAS:OILUNITED STATESOIL per 1 U.S. GALLON Gasoline

Hi graham I mix my oil to gas at 50:1 for my weedtrimmer at my house and it works just fine. 50:1= 2.5 oz 2 cycle oil and 1 gallon of gasoline. Use a high quality 2-cycle engine oil. Do not use automotive oil or 2-cycle outboard oil. Please rate me Bud
If you are talking about a two stroke engine, the ratio is usually between 32 to 1 to 50 to 1.
32 oz. of gas to 1 oz. of oil.
50 oz. of gas to 1 oz. of oil.
If you don't know go with 32:1
The answer should be in your owners manual.
You can use 50:1 which is 2.6 oz to 1gallon gas
or 40:1 which is 3.2 oz to 1 gallon of gas
I use Lucas semi synthetic myself
DO NOT USE OUTBOARD MOTOR OIL!
Your literature if you have it should tell you what they want? The little bottle your oil comes in,use a little bit of gas (the same gas you just mixed) to wash the excess oil out of it and dump back into your gas container
you could not pay me to use 50 to 1 ,i own 4 saws currently and i had aworkshop serviceing small motors ,chainsaws lawnmowers and such i will never use anything other than 25 to 1
It really depends on the engine. 50 to 1 is good in some and as oily as 32 to 1 in others. It is quite possible to have to carry 2 cans, 1 mixture for the main outboard and another mixture for a trolling motor. The dealers can tell you.
