What type of laptop is this, Windows or MAC? If Windows, go to Control Panel/Device Manager and make sure that your USB 2i2 interface is being detected as an external sound card. Then check the Sound Manager in Control Panel to make sure that the external sound card is selected as the playback device. Go back through the setup portion of the users manual. Windows does not necessarily 'remember' settings for devices when they are unplugged and then plugged back in again.
Did you install the mic's drivers before plugging the mic in? Have you tried it on 32bit operating systems other than Win 7? I don't think it will be an audio driver problem ie: asio4all. But because the OS doesn't recognise the driver automatically it might indicate where the problem lies. I am not familiar with this particular mic ( I use AKG cs1000s with Zoom R16 audio interface ) but I know there can be issues with some 64 bit systems and certain audio hardware. Nothing in the Behringer forums?
Many cases when a license is used up, you have a couple options. One is to purchase another license (expensive), another is to call the Tech Support for the software, sounds like maybe you had to reinstall your operating system (Windows/Mac/Linux) and the key has reached its functional limit. They maybe able to provide you a key vocally to get your software licensed/activated again. Many times most software licenses for home use will limit the number of times it can be activated to prevent piracy.
You say you have a XLR to USB adapter....so the version of the 120 you have is the regular XLR version, right? Well if it is, it needs what's called "phantom power" to work. It looks like they have a straight USB version of this mic, and that's what you should have gotten if you didn't want to use anything else. If you still want to use this mic as is, I would recommend a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. I have one and it's great. I do have a pc though and I'm not sure about Mac. But it's a usb powered preamp that gives you two mic pre's along with headphone amp, and a volume control for your speakers and has phantom power built in. Great unit and around $120. NFI.
