My refrigerator is warm

My freezer part works fine it cool of but my refrigerator is warm don't understand!

I have a GE GSS22JEMDBB sid by side refrigerator. The freezer side works except alot of moisture is gathering on the roof and sides of the freezer walls. The refrigerator side stays about 60 degrees. I removed the

back panel of the freezer side and melted all the ice packed around the coils. I replaced the panel and it seemed to be working for a couple of days. Now the freezer side and refrigerator sides are doing the same thing. What do I do to keep the coils from freezing up in a big chunk of solid ice?

My refrigerator is only 8 years old. It is a side-by-side. The freezer part is just fine, but the refrigerator part is now warm and will not get cool. What could be the problem???

  • suesbaskets Jul 29, 2008

The freezer is good but the refrigerator is not cold. We have had a repair man 4 times to fix this problem. It is only 3 years old. We have to take everything out of the freezer and refrigerator and let ice melt that gets built up between the freezer and refrigerator. The freezer blows cold air into the refrigerator and thats how the refrigerator part gets cold. I don't understand how it keeps getting ice build ups.

I took the evaporator panel off and it was all frosted up. I am assuming the panel acts as its ductwork and with it being totally frosted throughout the spine fin evaporator no air can go through. So, now that we lost all our food, I am hoping it gets cold fast again. Morning will tell. Polk City, Florida

To add to that above, I did take a hair drier and it took about 25 minutes to thaw it all out.

Another option is that the condenser fan, the fan right above the cooling coils is not working. This fan circulates the cold air and if it's not working it can't move the cold air over to the refrigerator side. Open the door and press the switch that tells the computer the door is closed (so the light goes out), if the fan doesn't come on shortly, or only sputters that could be the problem. As you take it apart, be sure to take some digital pics of the process so you can remember how it goes back together!

SOURCE: Regrigerator isn't cooling - freezer is fine....

Make sure there is not a ice build up in the back wall of the freezer.
If so, you have a defrost issue.
Make sure the freezer fan is blowing.
If so, you have a thermistor issue.

SOURCE: freezers cold but refrigerators warm

see if there is a big block of ice on the back plate in your frige, if there is then your thermostat is set to cold or broken. if no ice in the frige then it has a gas leak!

Check to see if there is frost or ice build up on the back panel in your freezer. If there is you have a defrost problem and the air is not circulating to your refrigerator.

Testimonial: "THERE IS SOME FROST BUT NOT ENOUGH TO CALL IT A BUILD UP I WILL CONTINUE TO OBSERVE FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS, THANKS FOR A GREAT TIP."

Maytag fridge not cooling

If the ref or freezer is too warm and you turn the dial to make it colder the compressor should come on. If the ref or freezer is not cold like you say the compressor should be on all the time. You should hear it, but you can definitely feel it and it should be very warm after a short while.
If the compressor does not get warm unplug the ref with the compressor running and plug it back in immediately. A good compressor should not start up right away.
If it is running and not getting warm and does start right up after unplugging it and plugging it back in it is inefficient and not compressing the freon gas enough and therefore not cooling enough.
The fan in the freezer should be running as should the fan under the refrigerator.
The condenser should be warm and the fan should be blowing[drawing] air across it when the compressor is on.
You don\'t repair compressors and to recharge them correctly is expensive.

GE Refrigerator Freezer warm

the frost on the back wall of the freezer is the clue to the problem. it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer/control board
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
