Ice Maker Making Noise

All of a sudden the ice maker started to make a grinding noise. The noise stops when the door is open and light on, but once the door is closed or the little button inside the freezer is pressd to indicate the door is closed, the noise starts again. The noise sounds like a creaky door slowly opening. Not sure why it's doing this, but would like to know how to fix it. We took the ice bucket out and made sure everything was lined up. We also adjusted the auger driver and that didn't fix the problem either. The fridge is only 1 1/2 years old. Help! Mine is the Jenn Air JCD2389GES , 3 years old and giving noises when we set the front panel to ice making mode. It is a continous ratle noise in the position of making ice or not ( up or down).Any help to solve this annoyance ?

Having the same problem. Ready to sell the Jenn-Air and get a quiet model. Guests ask what the noises are - ours is getting louder. Sounds like an old ship creaking! Did you find any solutions to this?

I think the noise sounds more like a pond of frogs with asthma. It is making me crazy.I wake up in the night and mess with it. Along with the noise, there is a problem with a glaze freezing over rthe ice maker parts, and the unit that shoots out the cubes gets frozen up with ice cubes stuck in it. I read that it might be low water flow, and indeed, our cold water barely trickles out, but how to fix that? I already tried a new filter, as the literature suggested. Wondering if you all are saying that yours makes the noise but you don't have the freezing problem? Ours is a Jenn-Air as well.

I was able to solve this problem by doing the following:

1) Carefully (because there may be sharp metal blades in this area) reached into the upper left compartment of the icemaker and pressed down on ice cubes that seemed to be lodged there and were protruding slightly above the slots they should have been passing through.

2) Press down on the cubes, forcing them through the slots and into the cube container below

3) Lift the metal arm, remove and completely empty the ice cube container

4) Return the ice cube container to the freezer, making sure it is seated properly

Close the freezer and wait until the ice cube maker begins to make new ice cubes. The sound should stop in around 10-15minutes.

I hear two things here or do I? I'm thinking the motor driver has stripped gears. Empty the ice from the tray so it will demand more. Using the door switch, fool the unit into thinking it is closed. Observe what you can about what is going on. Take appropriate steps to repair. Watch your fingers.

SOURCE: Ice Maker Making Noise

sounds like your icemaker is jammed.

first ofall just feel around the icemaker and see if you can find a peice of ice jamming it that you can remove. if that doesnt work heat it up with a blow dryer until any ice that is there will melt away and it will free up..

there is one other possibility: the stripper could be jammed against the side of the icemaker in which case you'll have to remove the icemaker from the refrig and unjam it..

hope that helps and good luck

All of a sudden it stopped making ice. the ice maker is making a grinding noise, but will not make ice.

It sounds like the unit froze up and stripped a gear. The only thing to do is to replace the ice maker head unit. You can get them at just about any appliance parts place for about $90.00. and is fairly easy to replace.

Hi,

Inspect the ice maker itself, sounds like either you have a jammed cube or your ice maker is not turning on heater to eject ice cubes from mold. If heater is the failure - replace ice maker. If unit is jammed, clear the ice maker mold and allow to cycle to see if damage was done to gear or ice production is restored.

Good Luck

Kenmore refrigerator making high pitch noise top front

could be the ice maker or the evaporator fan motor.you can try lifting the arm up on the ice maker and see if it stops, this will shut off the ice maker.also when you open the freezer door to lift the arm on the ice maker the evap fan motor should start when you open the door, you should hear it blowing around,is this the noise you hear?these are the two things i can think of that could make a noise up top,if not it could be the compressor or the condenser fan motor but these are down the bottom back of machine but still could be the problem,if the ice maker and evap fan motor both in the freezer are ok pull out the machine and remove the bottom back panel and check to see if the noise is coming from there where the condenser fan motor and compressor are, you're going to have to do some detective work to find the noise, hope this helps you out.

A very unusual 'croaking' frog like noise from the back of the freezer compartment. It stops if the freezer door is opened and starts again once closed. The freezer light switch is involved: With the...

I have a Kenmore Elite Trio and the freezer was making a frog sound. I found the solution.

My model number is 596.75523400. The sound will stop when the freezer is opened. It will stop again when the freezer drawer is open and the light switch is pressed to turn off the light. The ice drawer was full but it had stopped making ice.

Here is the fix in less than 10 minutes using only a screwdriver.
  • Take out the two freezer baskets
  • Remove the freezer door from the two slide tracks.
  • Unplug the icemaker electric connection at the back wall. Depress the clips on the side of the plug and wiggle it loose.
  • There are 3 screws that attach the icemaker to the left freezer wall. Remove the lower screw and unscrew the top two about ½ way out.
  • Slide the icemaker up so the slots slip over the 2 screws.
  • Put the icemaker in the sink and run a bit of water on the frozen cubes until they fall out.
  • Take the screwdriver and check the water inlet hose/pipe for ice that obstructs the flow of water into the ice maker.
  • Re-mount using the 3 screws and plug in the electric connector. Make certain the water inlet tube is positioned thru the retaining hole before you remount the screws.
  • Replace freezer door and baskets.

Amana Bottom Freezer door when shut starts a noise

The light is switched on and off by a small lever which is pushed when closing or opening the door. This operates a microswitch. It would not make any grinding noise. Grinding noise can come from the fanmotor which would also stop when the fridge door is open.

Ice Maker Making Noise

The motor for the auger drive runs pretty slow (about 18 rpm), it could be the drive is running continuously (unless the door is open). Check that and let me know some more info, is the noise real loud, soft, etc. Can you feel anything vibrating or running when the door switch is pressed in?
