SOURCE: How to knock out garbage disposal plug

Turn off the power source to the garbage disposal. Take the drain hose from the dishwasher off the connector going to the disposal (if connected). Insert a flat blade screwdriver in the drain hose fitting and tap a few times with a hammer. The plastic plug will pop off inside the garbage disposal. Reach inside from the top of the disposal to retrieve the plastic plug. Sometimes you have to use a little force to tap the plug out. Hope this helps you.

The disposal has a port that connects to the dishwasher. If the disposal clogs, the dishwasher cannot drain. There should be a 5/16 hex hole in the center of the underside
of the disposal to use a "wrenchette" disposal wrench to free the disposal. Or just use a
5/16 allen wrench. After freeing unit up, push the red square reset button on the bottom of the disposal. It should now work at the switch.

On some smaller disposals you may need a "universal"
disposal wrench that works from the top of the disposal. The reset is still located on
the bottom of the unit though. They cost around 10 dollars at the home improvement
store. Hope this is helpful.

Clogged or Improperly Installed Garbage Disposer If the dishwasher won't drain and the garbage disposer was installed recently, the installer might have forgotten to knock out the drain plug from this disposer. All garbage disposers are sold with a solid plug in the drain tube for situations where a dishwasher isn't connected. However, if the dishwasher is connected, the plug will need to be removed. If the disposer wasn't replaced recently, remove the dishwasher drain hose from the disposer and clean out both the fitting on the disposer and the end of the drain hose. We just replaced our garbage disposal and now the dishwasher won't drain. I order a drain pump and it still won't drain.

Make sure that the air clear on top of the sink is clean and clear all the way through. Sometimes in replacement silt and other garbage clog this up and keep it allowing water to drain properly.

Removing dishwasher drain plug on a new garbage disposal.

The plug is thin plastic. Use a flat blade screw driver and a hammer to knock it out. I know this sounds primitive but this is how it is done. I have been a plumber for thirty years.

My quiet partner 4 will no longer drain, I recently replaced my garbage disposal & the problem began after that.

There is a plug you have to remove on the garbage disposal where you hook up the washer drain hose.

Check the instructions with the disposal.

You'll have to deinstall the garbage disposal, remove this plug and reinstall.

Kenmore Built In Dishwasher

the obstruction they talk about in the disposer, its where the connection for the d/w drain is made, there is a "knockout" plug within the drain line connector( in case you dont have a d/w) that would need to be removed before the d/w will drain. can be popped out with a good smack with a screw driver, the plastic knockout will land within the disposer. disconnect power and remove the plug, it will not break up and wash away

The drain in to the garbage diposal is clogged.  Remove the drain hose from the dishwasher and clean the hose.  Also check the inlet to the garbage disposer and clena it.
