The forward reverse foot control has lost tension ,can this adjusted? Symptoms: when pressing control to move foward, accelerates quickly but speed greatly reduced. When letting up on control to brake, continues to move forward. Control does not return to neutral position. Clutch operation is fine.

The gear lever...move it to the forward position only slightly....not all the way forward...it'll move slower...
give it a try... worked on mine yesterday.

is this perhaps a hydro trans? if so, try putting the shift lever in neutral, then let off the brake pedal, use the shift lever to go forward and to neutral to stop - same with reverse, don't even use the brake pedal except for emergency stops. if it's a manual shift, it's possible the belt is incorrect, and/or the belt guides are bent or the belt is improperly routed - the belt guides are important as they allow the belt to "blossom" off the engine pulley, reducing the "shock" load when engaged - hope this helps

yes
there is a adjustment under the r/h rear gaurd just under where the lever goes to hydro unit you should see a slot and a adjustment bolt arrangement
make sure you put the tractor in true nuetral 1st then undo the bolt that clamps lever to shift arm / shaft ( this connects to plate that operates swash plate on the pump ) and move the lever either fwd or back until (without moving transmission from true nuetral ) it fits into the nuetral slot correctly and tighten the adjustment bolt - test and adjust as nescesary
