Close the chuck onto an Alan Key and use it to twist the drill off.

SOURCE: drill chuck removal

The screw should be left hand thread and the chuck is normal thread. The 'workshop' way to remove the chuck is to remove the screw (done). If the jaws are still working then clamp a sturdy allen key in it and whack it against a workbench to unscrew the chuck. If holding the drill in the normal position you would stand with the workbench to your left and whack it down on that. If the jaws aren't working then you can grip the body in a vice and use large pipe grips or stiltsons on the chuck. Also check to see if the chuck spindle will accept a thin spanner to hold it, as this is a slightly more caring way to brace the spindle. Then you can can hold the spanner in the vice and use the allen key in the chuck and unscrew it that way.

SOURCE: Chuck on Drill not moving

Re: Ryobi P205 special from Home Depot:
Confusing at first, but easy fix:
The chuck is shipped in the UNLOCKED position (and tightly unlocked, too).
I gripped mine w/rubber gloves and turned toward LOCK direction. It freed up with some effort.
But that's the trouble, it is a bit confusing because you would think you need to unlock it, but it's already unlocked.

SOURCE: Can't get the keyless chuck off cordless Makita 6095D drill.

If this is a newer tool it is probably a Torx drive screw usually a T20. The screw is LH thread and after removing it you will need to put some screws back in tool to remove the chuck. First shift the gear selector to the low setting and the clutch to the drill only. Next get a bent handle allen wrench about the capacity of the chuck install the short end of wrench in chuck and tighten. Put the chuck on a block or wood or a workbench to support is and turn the wrench to about a 30 degree angle in the counterclockwise position. The chuck has standard threads so you want to hit the wrench with a hammer to loosen it. This might take a few tries but it will work. Good luck

Kobalt cordless drill keyless chuck stuck shut

I have the same problem. It got progressively worse over time. The chuck did not want to tighten all the way at times and then got stuck open. There is a screw in the center to hold the chuck on. It is a left hand thread and I believe it loosened and the jaws became jammed on the loose screw. I tapped on the screw using a screwdriver and was able to tighten it a bit thus allowing the jaws to free. I removed the screw, put some thread locker on the threads and reassembled it. Seems fine now

3/8" cordless driver can't change the

If debris enters the chuck it may no longer turn for adjustment. Spray plenty of wd40 into chuck and allow plenty of time for oil to do its magic. Hold chuck/drill pointing down and turn drill in both directions to clean out debris. If chuck is too far gone, remove the center screw (backwards thread) and remove the chuck(threaded on). Replace the chuck with new generic part from Lowes (about $25.).

Removel of chuke

Open your chuck as far as it will go and look inside. If you see a screw go to www.ereplacementparts.com/article/890/How_to_Remove_a_Drill_Chuck.html for a good how to on this.

If there is no screw inside the chuck you have to take the drill to a Dewalt service center and have them remove it. It takes a special jig to remove it and I don't think you want to spend over $200 to remove one chuck. Do not try to use the taper-fit tool on a cordless drill, they do not use the taper fit chucks.

Hi i broke the chuck on my 1/2 makita cordless

Put the biggest hex key you have in the chuck and tighten it then hit it clockwise with the spindle lock engaged a couple of times. The screw in the chuck will then undo clockwise and the chuck can be undone after by putting the allen key back in and unscrewing it anti-clockwise maybe with a light tap from a mallet.
Hope this helps

How to unlock the chuck

this how to get a chuck off a drill.look inside the chuck for a screw. it will be a left handed screw.once you get the screw out put the chuck in a vice . you will need to squeeze it very tight. then put the drill in reverse and pull the trigger.if i wont come off you will need to hit the chuck with a hammer while you are holding the trigger. if you have a bit stuck in the chuck and cant get it out put the chuck in the vice and hit it very hard with a hammer until the chuck falls apart.i work on drills every day ,this is the only way we have found that works
